A third of businesses using AI without telling customers or employees The federal government lays out its plans to set "mandatory guardrails" for the highest-risk AI tools, as a survey of businesses reveals a third of those using AI are not disclosing it to customers or staff. While this policy sets a strong foundation, the complex nature of AI requires a more structured approach to manage the ethical and operational challenges it presents effectively. This is where ISO 42001 comes into play. ISO 42001: The Global Standard for AI Management Systems ISO 42001 is a new international standard designed to provide organisations with a responsible framework for managing AI systems. ISO 42001 covers critical aspects such as ethical AI deployment, risk management, and continuous improvement in AI processes. By adopting ISO 42001, business and government can enhance their current policy, ensuring a more comprehensive approach to responsible AI use. Thanks for sharing Ansgar Koene! I’m curious to what extent the ISO norm would be compatible with the AI Act, and whether or not this could bear potential for ‘filling in’ the AI Act’s many vague and open norms (albeit stemming from a different source than EU legislation). I’m also curious who could/have participated in the standardisation process and to what extent voices of civil society, SMEs, environment and fundamental rights organisations have been heard. Also, I would plea for wide and free accessibility throughout the AI sector - as would be in line with recent Dutch case law regarding (prescribed) norms.

The escalating risk of Shadow AI Employees across organizations are increasingly utilizing #GenAI tools for work-related tasks, sometimes without adequate training or guidelines, what has been named #ShadowAI and that mirrors the challenges associated with #ShadowIT: - Data exfiltration: There’s a risk of accidentally entering sensitive information into #AI tools, which could potentially be made public. - Regulatory: If the disclosed information includes personal data, it could lead to regulatory issues. How can we navigate these emerging challenges? - Clear Communication: Inform employees about the usage of GenAI tools, the associated risks, guidelines, and the appropriate channels for their use. - Training Programs: Develop comprehensive training programs to educate employees on how to safely use GenAI tools and adhere to regulations. - Robust Risk Management Practices: Implement strong enterprise risk management practices and monitor AI usage to identify potential risks and address them promptly.
