Where is the new Aged Care Act? When the Albanese government took office one of the first things it pledged to do was to introduce by 1 July 2024 a new Aged Care Act which would take account of, and give effect to many, if not all, of the recommendations of the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety. It has implemented some welcome measures such as the introduction of 24 / 7 registered nurse coverage, the mandating of minimum care minutes, and most significantly, an increase in pay for nursing and care staff. The Minister for Aged Care did empanel a (largely industry – led) taskforce (Taskforce) which has made recommendations to her about important areas of change, most notably as to how care should be funded in the future. However, the Taskforce’s recommendations were released some months’ ago but a Bill containing the new provisions has yet to be introduced to Parliament. This is now overdue. ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers and ANMs, probably one of the strongest and less talked about facets of Indian Healthcare. When you talk about how Indian Healthcare functions to serve a population of 1.4 billion, that conversation is incomplete without them. In this episode, we discuss leveraging a one of a kind healthcare network to plug gaps in healthcare. Truly one of the greatest conversations we've had on The Doc Suit with Vaibhao Ambhore
How can ASHA Workers help with Holistic Care? It's time to team up! Vaibhao A. | Chief of Party (USAID Saksham), PATH For The Doc Suit Vaibhao A. points out the untapped potential of ASHA workers. By training them to address additional health issues like anemia during their home visits, we can improve care without extra resources. Teaming up with Anganwadi workers and Auxiliary Nurse Midwives further enhances the effectiveness and reach of these visits. Watch the full episode through the link in our bio!
