Today, I'm honouring an exceptional occasion—Hospitality Workers in Healthcare Day. It's a day that speaks volumes, yet often slips by unnoticed, much like the very individuals it celebrates. Hospitality staff form the backbone of our healthcare environment. In the labyrinth of corridors and the quiet hum of a hospital's heart, they are the ones who ensure a warm smile greets every patient and a clean, safe environment awaits every visitor. Reflecting on their vital role, it dawns on me how their tapestry of tasks—from whipping up comforting meals to ensuring pristine wards—creates a cocoon of care. Their touches of compassion stitch a sense of 'home' into the sterile fabric of medical institutions. Having interacted with these incredible individuals, I am struck by their silent strength. They move, often invisibly, through their day, all with a common purpose: to soothe, to support, to serve. But why, I ask, do we only grant them the spotlight once a year? Isn't their toil deserving of daily recognition? I carry this thought forward and with it, a commitment to express gratitude more often. And perhaps, this post will stir that same commitment in others. To every hospitality worker in healthcare out there, your service doesn't merely tick a box but paints strokes of humanity across our lives. Our 'thank you' may be a whisper against the roar of your dedication, but it is heartfelt and unwavering. As we stamp this day in our calendars, let's knit a new norm - one where appreciation is an everyday act, not confined to 24 hours. To recap my recent posts to get ready to dive into travel nursing: You've digitized your documents, updated your Resume and chatted with some recruiters-now you're ready to identify a target start date and think about any time off that you want to request (time of must be given up front for a travel contract-and in most locations they will require you to work 2 out of the 3 'Winter Holidays' of Thanksgiving, Christmas and NYE. Also-Make sure that you have savings for travel, deposits and incidentals. If you don't, go ahead and make this a priority and plan to work in your staff position until you can accomplish this-planning ahead is key here
