ASEAN, the art of uniting the cultural differences Each of ASEAN countries has their own characteristics. The way of life, their traditional cuisines, languages and how they celebrate the huge moments are really different due to their cultural roots and region. It is caused by the diversity of geographical conditions which lead them to some behavior which fits their regional conditions to survive their life-span well. There are so many traditional cuisines in ASEAN that are created by the suitable ingredients based on their location. For instance, the richness of spices in Indonesia has been becoming the reason for one of its specialty foods, rendang. But then, there are some common similarities between the differences revealed, most ASEAN people eat rice as their staple food. It seems that ASEAN has their unique thing that comes to describe our unity of ASEAN. The fostering of cultural diversity has shown by the founding of ASEAN organization which consists of Southeast countries where the aims and purposes were about cooperation in the economic, social, cultural, technical, educational, and other fields. It definitely defines the strength of the sense of community among countries to know each other well. Art exhibitions, conferences, and other valuable events held by ASEAN have become the evident of those missions of ASEAN organization. Let's exchange our culture and know more about other cultures in ASEAN by participating in some exchange events and supporting the ASEAN organizations for the best solidarity in the differences of the southeast region. Malaysian business culture (New article on the REAB website) Malaysia's cultural diversity makes it an interesting place to do business. The population is predominantly Malay (legally meaning a person must be Muslim), but there are also large Chinese and Indian communities. It is important to understand some of the cultural differences when developing relationships and doing business in this market. On 24th of July I had the pleasure to take part in the “Youth Engagement and Empowerment Hive in Asia - YEEHAA”, organized by NTFP-EP Indonesia and Tropenbos Indonesia. Together with representatives from UNDP, WWF Indonesia, and the Samdhana Institute, we listened to the ambitious action plans of indigenous youth groups from all over Asia. We reflected on the indigenous youth challenge of bridging the cultural gaps between their territorial homes and their professional lives. My contribution to the discussion focused on the role of education. This, because it is in education where false dichotomies between scientific and local knowledge are created. As education is part of the problem, education should also be part of the solution. Transforming education for better lies in the recognition that knowledge transfer isn’t restricted to the classroom. It happens through human- and human-nature interactions, in cities, in forests, in bio-culturally diverse landscapes. Teachers, stop being experts, and start learning how people really learn. Stop lecturing and start mentoring your students to learn from their landscapes, to combine the best of both worlds, and to become the leaders of the future. As I delve deeper into the fascinating world of international relations (thanks to my current class of International Relations at Universitas Pembangunan Nasional Veteran Jakarta!), the US and Canada have consistently captured my interest. Their dynamic economies, ever-evolving political landscapes, and rich cultural tapestry have become a constant source of intrigue for my current ventures, particularly at cadence, my entertainment-media startup. In fact, researching their business environments and cultural nuances has become an integral part of our work! At cadence, we're developing intellectual properties (IPs) that hold immense potential for soft power and digital diplomacy. This aligns perfectly with my IR studies, as these IPs could foster cross-cultural understanding and positive international relations. Imagine creating content that bridges cultural divides and promotes positive global interactions! Now, I'm thrilled to announce that I'll be visiting both countries soon. This trip presents an incredible opportunity to experience firsthand what I've been engrossed in for so long. I'm eager to connect with professionals, immerse myself in the culture, and gain a deeper understanding of these influential nations, all of which will be invaluable in shaping these IPs. If you have any recommendations for must-see places, hidden gems, or insightful connections in the US or Canada, please don't hesitate to share them in the comments below! By the way, if you're working on a product launch or have something you'd like fresh eyes on, I'd be happy to help! Whether you need captivating photos or real user feedback, feel free to reach out and connect. #US #Canada #internationalrelations #business #culture #travel #excited #softpower #digitaldiplomacy
