‘We are here to help educate the financial sector that working with regenerative farmers is good for both business and the soil.” 🌱 – Ricardo Luís, Agroholding Contesti SRL, Agreena Ambassador farmer As part of our financial services partnership, we joined IFC - International Finance Corporation at their seminars in Moldova and Romania, bringing finance professionals together with farmers. CCO Frederik Aagaard, Principal Strategy Manager Bo Tolstrup Christensen, Principal R&D Manager Rasmus Bjerre-Edberg and Project Manager Nicholas Rapp brilliantly represented Agreena on panels alongside other financial sector leaders and government officials. From the impacts of climate change to creating financial products that account for the greater resilience of soils associated with regenerative agriculture, discussions were focused on the importance of collaboration and knowledge-sharing between farmers, financial institutions and other stakeholders in scaling the adoption of regenerative agriculture. 🎯 Thanks to all those who contributed their time and shared their experience: in particular Andrian Prohnitchi, Razvan Avram, Petru Panfil, Andrei Pavlenco from Proteh Agro and Adrian Călin from IPSO Agricultură, as well as IFC partners Vlad Andrei Popescu from Norofert Group and Florin Ciolacu from The Romanian Farmer's Club. Great to see the Chair of the ICRISAT Governing Board addressing the staff members and acknowledging their collective strides in fostering innovations in dryland agriculture. I remember couple of such occasions during my ICRISAT days. Having worked with ICAR, CGIAR and UN System in Semi-Arid Tropics of India and Africa for about four decades, more so dealing with food legume crops in dryland, I find scope for an holistic approach that addresses the specific challenges posed by the region's climate, soil conditions, water availability and finally access to quality seeds of climate resilient, high water use efficient and high partitioning varieties to make drylands agriculturally productive, predictive and remunerative. Therefore, there is an urgent need to invest in research and development of innovative technologies and practices tailored to the specific needs of dryland agriculture, including precision agriculture tools, and climate-smart agricultural practices. So also, strengthening institutional capacity for extension services, farmer organizations, and community-based natural resource management to facilitate participatory decision-making and sustainable development. By combining these strategies in a coordinated manner, it is possible to unlock the agricultural potential of drylands and transform them into productive food bowls, ensuring food and nutritional security, livelihood improvement, and sustainable development in these challenging environments. My article on way forward brought out 2 years ago: 50 Years of ICRISAT - Better Look Back Before Next Move https://lnkd.in/d8fnDtEp I am sure ICRISAT and NARS can do it together and create positive impact. #CGIAR #ICRISAT #ICAR #NARS #FAO #WorldBank Dr. M S Basu, MD SBSF Consultancy. Agribusinesses have the potential to transform the global food system by creating jobs, improving food quality, and supporting smallholder farmers. However, they often struggle to access funding, especially in sub-Saharan Africa where there’s a $74 billion finance gap. That’s why we’re teaming up with FMO - Dutch entrepreneurial development bank and the UK Government to help agribusinesses and small farmers get more funding and support. Through our technical assistance facility BII Plus, we are expanding a program called CASA, which helps agribusinesses in developing countries get the finance they need. The program aims to make agribusinesses more successful and inclusive, benefiting both people and the planet. BII and FMO will each invest $3 million in the expanded CASA Plus programme from 2024-2026, with plans to extend it further. CASA Plus will offer support to enhance existing investments, find new investment opportunities, and tackle barriers to investment in green and inclusive agribusinesses. The first phase of CASA, managed by TechnoServe, has already helped 40 agribusinesses improve services for around 116,000 smallholder farmers, boosting their incomes and resilience to climate change.

Our ambition is to work with enterprising individuals in business, governments and civil society to transform food systems in ways that allow food producers and business owners to thrive, that are sustainable, and that improve the health and nutrition of people in the communities that we serve. But how do we mobilise investment to fuel this potential? Food processors and other agro-intermediaries are a centre of gravity in many strategic food valuechains with the ability to drive positive impact for both farmers and consumers. They are serving as a strategic entrypoint and channel for catalytic investment for our local #foodsystemstransformation strategy. By aligning specialised technical assistance with access to finance, the Commercial Agriculture for Smallholders and Agribusiness (CASA) program demonstrates the business case for global and national investments in climate-resilient agri-food systems that increase smallholder farmer incomes. CASA has increased investment in agribusinesses by showcasing the commercial and development potential of inclusive business models, with lasting impact. Through this 5-year initiative, we aim to: 🌱 Improve access to high-quality seeds for farmers, including smallholder farmers. 🌍 Facilitate seed trade and access to new markets. 💪 Build resilience to climate change and strengthen food security across the African continent. By leveraging the internationally harmonized OECD Seed Schemes and collaborating with global experts like the International Seed Federation, this initiative helps participating countries: 🎖️Meet global certification standards. 📈Enhance agricultural productivity and reduce input inefficiencies. 🌳Protect natural resources by enabling higher yields on existing land, reducing the need for expansion. Long-term, profitable and sustainable. At its best, the co-operative business model is hard to beat..
🌼🤝 The first Saturday in July every year – which is today – has been designated by the United Nations as International Day of Cooperatives. As an agricultural cooperative with roots going back to the early 1900s, Lantmännen wants to highlight the significant role that cooperatives have played in the development of the society we live in today. 🌱♻ And with sustainability as a core part, cooperative businesses will continue to be crucial for society and for the planet in the future. 🌍 Cooperatives build a better future for all. At Lantmännen, every member has a voice. All members share in the company's profits. All members also have the opportunity to influence how Lantmännen is governed. 🌻🚜👩🌾 Our purpose is clear – to create a thriving agricultural sector. Through our business model, we create conditions for long-term, profitable, and sustainable Swedish agriculture. 👨🌾🤲 We also support other agricultural co-ops. For example, through the aid organization We Effect, we support the local cooperative Mumberes Farmers, which in turn is part of the association BAMSCOS in Kenya. 👉 Read more about our cooperative business model: https://lnkd.in/dEBCJZJU --- #Lantmännen #CoopsDay2024
