It’s embarrassing that I can’t name even half of the 54 African countries, and I struggle to place some of them on a map. So I look for news about the ones I’m less familiar with and post it here, hoping to remember them better. The Sahel States (Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso) are landlocked and knowing that, it’s clear why this initiative is so significant for them. “Sahel States have lauded King Mohammed VI’s initiative aiming to facilitate their access to the Atlantic Ocean, as a ‘highly important strategy’ for co-development and prosperity in the region and as a move that will help the Sahel states diversify their sources of access to the Atlantic.” Via Monty Simus Wildcats and Black Sheep (https://bit.ly/3O5er3j) https://lnkd.in/gEAWkwPb

"The Sahara: An Unshakable Pillar of Moroccan National Unity" 🇲🇦 In a solemn and inspiring speech delivered on October 11, 2024, at the opening of the parliamentary session, His Majesty King Mohammed VI strongly reaffirmed Morocco’s attachment to its southern provinces, an integral and essential part of its territory. The King praised the international support, particularly from France, which recognizes the Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara and endorses the autonomy initiative as the only viable solution. The King emphasized the need for all Moroccans, through strengthened parliamentary diplomacy and concrete actions, to defend this primary national cause. He urged parliamentarians to be proactive and work closely together to strengthen Morocco’s position on the global stage. At the same time, he highlighted the importance of strategic projects, such as the Morocco-Nigeria gas pipeline, which anchors the Moroccan Sahara in the economic and social development of the Kingdom while positioning it as a vital link between Morocco and the African continent. His Majesty called on all Moroccans to remain united and vigilant against destabilization attempts, reaffirming that the Sahara is Moroccan and will remain so, serving as a powerful symbol of the Kingdom’s unity and sovereignty. By fostering national solidarity and the support of loyal partners, Morocco proudly reasserts its sovereignty and commitment to the development of its southern provinces. #MoroccanSahara #UnityAndSovereignty #KingMohammedVI #MoroccanDiplomacy #SaharaAutonomy #MoroccoNigeriaPipeline #NationalUnity #SouthernProvinces #MoroccanParliament #EconomicDevelopment

The ongoing dispute between Niger and the United States underscores the complexities of military partnerships and internal dynamics within the Nigerien military leadership. While the US remains pragmatic in its approach, seeking to retain its military presence, Niger's decision to revoke its military pact raises questions about its strategic vision and potential ties with other global players. The resolution of this dispute will shed light on Niger's future policies and its role in regional alliances, with implications for broader geopolitical dynamics in West Africa. #niger #usmilitarypresence #geopolitics

#France recognizes Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara. This is particularly significant as its two former colonizers France and Spain both now recognize the pre-colonial borders of the kingdom and the cultural and allegiance ties with the Hassani Arab tribes of the Sahara. The French dicision is Macron’s peace dove with Rabat on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Mohammed the 6th coronation today. The impact of such step is more historically impactful in the resolution of the Sahara conflict than the 2020 US recognition. Now all eyes on Algeria. Would they cut ties with Paris like they did with Spain at the time? Would there be military escalation or simply further tensions between the two countries?

Today, we celebrate the 70th anniversary of the November 1st Revolution-a turning point in Algeria’s history and a testament to the bravery of those who fought for our independence. Their sacrifices remind us of the strength and resilience that define our nation. May we honor their legacy by continuing to build a united and prosperous Algeria. The image shows the Group of Six who planned and initiated the Algerian Revolution on November 1, 1954. Known as "Les Six Historiques," these visionary leaders-Mostefa Ben Boulaïd, Didouche Mourad, Rabah Bitat, Mohamed Boudiaf, Larbi Ben M'hidi, and Krim Belkacem—were the core in organizing and launching the armed struggle for Algeria's independence from French colonial rule. Their courage, strategy, and dedication laid the foundation for a legendary movement that would ultimately lead to Algeria’s independence in 1962, a legacy that continues to inspire us and all generations of Algerians. #Algeria #NovemberRevolution #Independence
