Human Rights and Transitional Justice are integral to our mission. We're mobilising ourselves, local institutions, and fellow community members for community-based transitional justice initiatives. Our recent meeting with some youth-led civil society groups informs us of the key roles that we play together with them in advancing grassroots justice initiatives. #transitionaljustice #humanrights #ahnyar #centreforahnyarstudies

All Australian voters need to give some thought to the way "the state" has been screwing over Australian children and young people - especially indigenous Australian children and young people, but not only. Elsewhere today there are questions being asked about the role of Australian State and Federal Governments stripping the assets and rights of young Australians. Here's a post that Aboriginal people should consider within the context of the decision to treat their children as criminals. The following is a cover note, with a link to the post on the role Indians are playing in stripping Aboriginal rights to water, within the wider context of senior Australian politicians engaged in stripping the rights and assets of young Australians:- "Are Indians welcome to country? Give some thought to the implications for young Aboriginal people and the loss of opportunities for their futures. The same issues are harming the future of young non-indigenous Australians too, but the negative impacts on young Aboriginals is far greater because of the relationship between Aboriginal tribes' rights to water and their 65,000 years long responsibility to care for the environment and for food security. If Aboriginal leaders can articulate the issues for young Aboriginals whilst also acknowledging the harm being caused to young non-indigenous Australians, that is a national leadership and Reconciliation opportunity that will resonate with all Australians. The Albanese Government has promised to use private sector entrepreneurialism to help Close the Gap. A starting point is to secure Aboriginal tribes' assets. Teamwork with non-indigenous Australians in the private sector will help. But someone needs to explain the problem and the solution." - See: https://lnkd.in/gz2CBrhN
“Today’s announcement is a major setback for the rights of Aboriginal children, who are dramatically over-represented in Victoria’s youth justice system" - Deputy Chair of Yoorrook, Adjunct Professor Sue-Anne Hunter Read Yoorrook's media statement on the government's backflip on raising the age of criminal responsibility: https://lnkd.in/gxhmP_qE #SpringSt #RaiseTheAge #YouthJustice
