ICAP's recent initiative to offer international articleship opportunities for students has sparked discussions on its overall benefits. While there are clear advantages such as gaining global exposure, enhancing professional skills, and expanding professional networks, there are also potential challenges to consider. Financial implications, including the cost of living abroad and visa requirements, can be significant barriers for some students. Additionally, adapting to a new work environment and cultural norms may pose initial challenges. However, for students who are willing to overcome these obstacles, international articleship with ICAP offers a unique chance to immerse oneself in diverse business practices, learn from global experts, and build a solid foundation for a successful career in the competitive field of chartered accountancy. Ultimately, the decision to pursue international articleship depends on individual readiness to embrace both the opportunities and challenges it presents.

Degree vs. Qualification: What Should You Focus On? Getting a direct graduation degree based on CAF might not be in your control—it's up to ICAP's policies. But completing your qualification is entirely in your hands. Focus on what you can achieve with consistent effort, and don't stress over things outside your control. 💭 "May Allah guide ICAP to adopt more student-friendly policies to resolve this issue soon." For students who are financially stable, alternative routes to obtaining a degree might be available. But for the majority, who belong to middle-class families, paying high fees for a degree isn’t feasible. Here’s a practical solution for those who can't afford a degree right now: ✅ Stay positive and trust the process. ✅ Focus on your qualification—CA or ACCA. ✅ Complete your articleship and qualify within that time frame. ✅ Start earning better. ✅ Get your graduation degree later (many options allow this within a year). At this stage, you’ll be eligible to work globally, especially in the Middle East, where opportunities are abundant for qualified professionals. However, challenges persist for some finalists, such as: 🔹 No recognized qualification (e.g., graduation or a master’s degree). 🔹 Articleship at firms without reputable international affiliations. 🔹 Limited work experience or technical expertise. Despite this, there are ample opportunities in the Middle East through secondments with firms like EY, Baker Tilly, BDO, Deloitte (back office), RSM, and Mazars. 👉 Keep focusing on your qualification and gaining relevant experience. 👉 Trust in Allah’s plans. Stay focused, keep believing, and let your journey inspire others. 🌟 #CA #ICAP #Graduation #Articleship #CAJourney #MiddleEastOpportunities #StayMotivated

For CA students in Pakistan, securing articleship positions can be challenging, exacerbated by the apparent lack of support from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP). While students are encouraged to leverage personal networks and attend industry events, ICAP's role in facilitating these connections seems insufficient. There is a notable absence of structured support such as mentorship programs or dedicated networking initiatives that could bridge the gap between students and potential employers. Additionally, ICAP should take a more proactive approach by offering training sessions to prepare students for interviews, equipping them with the necessary skills and confidence to succeed in securing articleship positions. Enhancing these services would greatly benefit students, providing them with more opportunities to gain valuable articleship experience essential for their professional growth.

My ACCA Journey: 2.5 Years of Growth, Dedication, and First-Time Success! As I look back on my ACCA journey, spanning 2.5 years, I feel proud and excited about the road ahead. Starting through the AFD diploma, I managed to clear all my papers on the first attempt, and I’m hopeful to do the same with the final Strategic Business Leader (SBL) paper. The result is due on 14th October 2024, and I’m eagerly awaiting the next step! Key Lessons I’ve Learned: Consistency is Key: Balancing studies with life was no easy task, but staying consistent has paid off. Growth Through Challenges: Every paper, from the initial to the final ones, brought its own set of challenges, but each taught me something valuable. Believing in the Process: ACCA has been a journey of not just technical learning but personal growth as well. What’s Next? With my ACCA qualification almost complete, I’m now looking to gain practical experience in an audit firm through an internship or articleship. I’m eager to apply the skills I’ve acquired and contribute to the field while continuing to learn from seasoned professionals. If you have any advice or opportunities, I would love to connect! Let’s grow and support each other in this journey. #ACCA #ACCAJourney #Audit #Accounting #Finance #Internship #Articleship #GrowthMindset #FirstAttempt #ProfessionalDevelopment #CareerInAudit

Understanding the Struggles of CA Direct Entry Students As a Direct Entry student myself, I understand the unique challenges we face on the path to becoming Chartered Accountants. Here are some key struggles we encounter: 1. Balancing Act: Juggling work and studies is a significant challenge. Unlike students coming through the foundation route, Direct Entry students often start their articleship alongside their studies, making time management crucial. 2. Lack of Initial Coaching: Direct Entry students may miss the foundational coaching that others receive, potentially leading to gaps in their knowledge base that need to be addressed independently. 3. Intense Pressure: The dual burden of handling professional work and preparing for exams can lead to immense pressure and stress, affecting both performance and well-being. 4. Adapting to Professional Environment: Transitioning from academic life to a professional setting can be overwhelming. Adjusting to office culture, client interactions, and real-world application of theoretical knowledge requires a steep learning curve. 5. Limited Peer Support: Being relatively fewer in number, Direct Entry students might find it harder to form study groups or find peers who understand their specific struggles. 6. Self-Motivation and Discipline: The path requires a high degree of self-motivation and discipline. Without structured classroom settings, staying focused and on track becomes a personal responsibility. Despite these challenges, the determination and resilience of Direct Entry students are commendable. Reminder: This is not to say that the struggles of the foundation route are any less challenging. Every path to becoming a Chartered Accountant has its unique difficulties.

We were delighted that all our sessions ran slightly over schedule - a clear sign that the students were engaged, asked great questions and enjoyed the lively debates. There are numerous ways for students to start investing in their future such as: - attending vac work programmes such as the one MGI Bass Gordon hosted last week - volunteering at an NPO and gaining skills related to their studies (accounting, marketing, events coordination etc) - getting involved with the various student bodies and attending different talks at their universities. Don't finish your studies only to realise you don't know enough about the outside world - start doing your research, developing crucial soft-skills and asking your questions now. #thefutureisyou #youth #empoweryourself #knowledgeispower
