"🌿 Embracing Innovation in Agriculture: Unveiling BotaniScan's Cutting-Edge Technology 🚀 Dive into our latest research report exploring the revolutionary fusion of *CNN* Convolutional Neural Networks and image processing with talented team mates Mahnoor Sahil Aqsa Izma in a new era of plant analysis. With BotaniScan, we achieve unprecedented accuracy rates of 97% in plant identification, 89% in disease detection, and 80% in water level estimation. In this framework, three specialized deep learning models were developed relying on a distinctive convolutional network (CNN) architecture. The first model accurately recognizes apple, tomato, and grape plants, while the second identifies leaf spot disease affecting these plants. The third model estimates water levels using images of both healthy and diseased plant leaves. Notably, our proposed architecture outperformed existing classification methods, achieving impressive validation accuracies for plant identification, disease detection, and water level estimation. Join us in revolutionizing agriculture with advanced technology! #BotaniScan #AgriculturalInnovation #TechRevolution #PlantAnalysis"

The Genius of the Crowd! No, not the wonderful Bukowski poem. But a promising combination of AI and citizen science... Nature protection and restoration has a data problem. It's very hard to get a read on species and biodiversity with a high degree of accuracy. Despite advancements in eDNA, bioacoustic monitoring, camera traps etc, we still have to rely on personpower. Scientists at Berkley, California have correlated citizen science data from the iNaturalist app with high-resolution remote-sensing satellite images to produce a map of plant distributions throughout the state. 652,000 observations (image left) were used to train an AI model - combined with the 2012 National Agricultural Imagery Program (image right) - to predict the distribution of 2,221 species. The findings were published Sept. 5 in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences by Moisés “Moi” Expósito-Alonso, a UC Berkeley assistant professor of integrative biology. “That is a goal — to expand it to many places,” Expósito-Alonso said. “Almost everybody in the world has smartphones now, so maybe people will start taking pictures of natural habitats and this will be able to be done globally. At some point, this is going to allow us to have layers in Google Maps showing where all the species are, so we can protect them. That’s our dream.” Empowering to think of the global smartphone network being put to good use... Thanks to Rob Wreglesworth for sharing.
