Witnessing their graceful journey into their golden years fills my heart with a joy that’s hard to put into words. So, you might wonder, “Hey Nika, how will I know when... you know, it’s time?” It’s the question that echoes in the quiet moments we share with our loyal companions. Here’s the real talk: You’ll just know. It’s like they have this secret language of love and understanding that only you can decipher. Asking around for advice? Nah, that’s a one-way ticket to Confusionville. Trust me, it’s like trying to read a map upside down – totally disorienting! Remember, you’re the world to your furry friend – their superhero without the cape. And if you listen closely, they’ll whisper their needs in the most unexpected ways. It’s been nearly a year since I had to say goodbye to my boy Geoff, and that moment of knowing? It hit me like a lightning bolt straight to the heart. 💔 But from that storm came a promise to cherish every tick of the clock we had left. And oh, did we make every second count! If you’re navigating this tender time, here are a couple of nuggets of wisdom to light your path: 1️⃣ Keep a daily joy score. More smiles than frowns? You’re on the right track. If the scales tip the other way, it might be time for that tough conversation. 2️⃣ Movement is magic! Keep those tails wagging and paws prancing as much as they comfortably can. 3️⃣ Adapt their environment accordingly. This can include nonslip floors, using ramps to get in and out of the car, reducing stair climbing and lifting their food bowls.
