After successfully resuming flights to Europe, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is now gearing up to restart flights to the United Kingdom. According to Nadir Shafi Dar, Director General of the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA), a delegation from the UK's Department for Transport is scheduled to visit Pakistan next month. An online meeting is planned for the third week of December, with an official visit to follow in January 2025. Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) will resume its flights to Europe starting January 10, following the European Union's decision to lift a four-year ban. The first flight will depart from Islamabad to Paris, with two weekly flights initially scheduled on Fridays and Sundays. PIA has received approval for its flight schedule and will begin booking on December 9 for the Boeing 777 flight. The airline, suspended in June 2020 after a tragic crash and allegations of fake pilot licenses, is now committed to adhering to European aviation safety standards. Nigeria’s Air Peace to lease Norse Boeing 787s to commence London services Nigerian-based airline Air Peace is preparing to start its long-awaited service linking Lagos with London on March 30, 2024. Without available aircraft of its own to start services on the route, the carrier will be using leased Boeing 787-9s supplied by Norse Atlantic Airways (Norse) The new route will see Air Peace operate from Lagos’ Murtallah Muhammed International Airport (LOS) to London-Gatwick Airport (LGW) four times per week commencing at the start of the IATA northern summer schedule period. According to Air Peace, the agreement with the UK-based arm of Norwegian carrier Norse is a wet-lease deal that will last for two months initially, but with the possibility of an extension. The airlines have also disclosed that they are in exploratory talks about further ways in which Norse aircraft could be sued to expedite Air Peace’s ambitious long-haul expansion plans. Ethiopian Airlines aims for growth in China with new partnerships; Ethiopian Airlines Group has signed two agreements with China-based organisations that aim to help it grow its business in the air cargo market. The Group has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Xiamen Iport Group and a memorandum of understanding with China Henan Aviation Group (CHAG). In February last year, the airline also added freighter flights connecting Xiamen with São Paulo and Santiago via Addis Ababa, plus freighter flights between Shenzhen and Liège. Ethiopian flies to 135 international passenger and cargo destinations, including 63 African cities. @Dace Kavasa, I disagree that "technically" there is a higher supply... Excess in pilot supply is a fact, at least in Europe. When big carriers announce vacancies, they receive hundreds of candidacies. If there were a shortage of pilots, why crews would accept to work for incredibly low salaries, under bogus self-employment and with atypical contracts? If airlines had really a shortage, would they not offer to pay cadets for their type ratings? Airlines keep the number of employees short, for obvious cost considerations. Did they go too far in reducing aircrew costs? In many cases, yes. This causes problems, notably in the high season. Some airlines do not have enough crews to cope with higher demand, delays and other uncertainties. In those cases, airlines have created their own shortages. Some realise too late, and have difficulties in putting too many pilots on the line at the same time. This is not a pilot shortage, it is bad planning… Some continue to sell the idea of a pilot shortage to pursuit their own advantage. It is an interested alternative truth.
