"You can tek us out of Bradford, but you can't tek the Bradford out of us". These are sentiments that apply to the people of many places and that point to where to look to better understand personal and place identity. Having enjoyed the punchy poetry used to celebrate Bradford's successful U.K. City of Culture bid, I am looking forward to the launch of its year-long cultural programme for 2025. It's a year that marks an ambitious highlight in a 10-year Cultural Strategy and an impressive programme of physical renewal across the Borough's urban and rural communities. Let's hope all the stars align so that Bradford can show itself in its best light in 2025. It will be important in helping refresh external impressions and most importantly celebrate and strengthen the city's cultural mosaic from within. It might not present a picture of perfection or complete cohesion, though portray an impressive 'work in progress' that examplifies the challenges and changes facing many U.K towns and cities. 'Brand Bradford' will hopefully gain a welcome boost next year, and the collective self-belief of its communities grow. Even such a high profile, national event though, is only a moment in a city's renewal and its success will probably be better judged from lasting impressions in say 2030. It's a 'journey' that so many towns and cities need to take and their evolving 'brands' serve as much as a spirit and sign of progress, than a fixed end point. The role of local pride in place and brand identity as a reflection of renewal, is a theme that I will be running with as part of research with Cathy Parker MBE, SFIPM, hopefully Mihalis Kavaratzis and the Institute of Place Management throughout 2025. This will begin with an outline of the opportunities in the January issue of out 'Talk of the Town' newsletter -use the link in the The People & Places Partnership Ltd. comment below to subscibe and keep up-to-date. Decades on from when our parents moved us South, I'll be revisting the city of our birth with my brother to see how much of the spirit of Bradford remains within us. #ukcityofculture #bradford2025 #bradford #placebranding #cities

Supporting Our Local Communities At Rockford, we believe in giving back to the communities that support us. We're proud to sponsor the Bemerton St John's Primary School football team, helping to provide the resources they need to thrive both on and off the field. By investing in our local youth, we hope to foster teamwork, sportsmanship, and a sense of community spirit. Together, we're building a stronger future. Go, Bemerton St John's! School Values Educating for Thankfulness: We do not take for granted the gifts we have been given, the privileges we are afforded or those who love and nurture us so that we can serve others. Educating for Respect: We celebrate diversity and value the views of others. We have respect for the value of each individual as a unique original so that we all have a voice. Educating for Wisdom: We learn how to make informed choices between what is right and wrong. We develop a passion for knowledge and understanding so that we can continue to grow in wisdom and learn from our mistakes. Educating for Perseverance: We gain the strength to keep going when it is easier not to and learn the value of pursuing the goal whatever obstacles stand in our way so that we achieve the success we wish for. Educating for Fairness: We gain an understanding of what is fair and just so that we can grow in the confidence to challenge injustice whenever we encounter it. #ukmanufacturing #innovation #rockfordglobal

Grateful to gather with neighbors for our community garden clean-up day. I’ve been reflecting on neighborliness - living and leading with our neighbors in mind and heart. Cultivating communities of care wherever we are. Finding grounding and inspiration in nurturing authentic, trusting relationships and in the cycles of weeding, planting, harvesting. Letting go and creating spaciousness for new life and possibilities to grow and ripen in their own time and place. Being nimble and adaptive as we work towards renewal, regeneration, and building a world where our neighbors can actually flourish. Also remembering bell hooks’ beautiful wisdom and insight on living with a love ethic… “To live our lives based on the principles of a love ethic (showing care, respect, knowledge, integrity, and the will to cooperate), we have to be courageous. Learning how to face our fears is one way we embrace love. Our fear may not go away, but it will not stand in the way. Those of us who have already chosen to embrace a love ethic, allowing it to govern and inform how we think and act, know that when we let our light shine, we draw to us and are drawn to other bearers of light. We are not alone.” Where are you finding community and authentic connection in your life and leadership? What are values that keep you grounded and guide you to stay the course? How might we welcome more awareness, courage, and kindness in our communities - and create the conditions for mutual flourishing?
