What happened at #COP29? To distil the dizzying headlines, we've quickly summarized what some of the key outcomes are, and also some of the stumbles: 💸 Rich nations tripled their climate financing pledge to $300 billion a year – although this falls well short of the $1.3 trillion demanded. ⛽ No progress was made on COP28’s commitment to phase out fossil fuels, kicking the responsibility over to COP30. 🌳 Agreements were made on carbon markets, making the carbon credit trade fully operational. ✊ Countries agreed to extend a gender and climate change program. 🌍 Countries agreed to support least developed countries (LDCs) with national adaptation plans (NAPs).

Another disappointing COP29 afterwards. Was i surprised? I don’t think so. I have always had issues from day one when notable top leaders of high emitting countries were absent. $300 billion climate finance deal was a joke and unjust to vulnerable countries. On a positive note though, there was agreement on a global carbon credit market framework with the hope to improve the integrity of carbon credit and lead to a UN-backed global carbon market. Also, climate transparency won with the first submissions of Biennial Transparency Report (BYRs) by eight countries which will make sharing data regularly encourage others to meet their commitments. Climate change is right in our face and we must continue to do everything possible to demand responsible and equitable actions. We go again in Brazil- #COP30 #cop29 #baku #azerbaijan #climatefinance #climateaction

As the curtain falls on this year’s COP, it leaves behind a mixed legacy — an intersection of breakthroughs, unresolved challenges, and lessons shaping the path forward. Here is our wrap-up: 🟢 Nations sealed a $300 billion annual deal, clarified carbon markets, and pledged enhanced strategies for COP30 to boost climate funding. 🟠 Developing countries’ funding hopes fell short, and concerns over "greenwashing" cast doubt on carbon markets. 🔴 Extended negotiations raised doubts about COP's efficacy, with major players voicing disappointment over insufficient action. While this COP marked a step forward, the road ahead is still a long one. The message is clear: the world must pick up the pace—before it’s too late. 🌍💡 Swipe through our carrousel for more details 👇 #ClimateAction #COP29 #Sustainability

In my latest blog on COP29, I dive into a powerful moment from the conference when the UN Secretary-General called Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) "the most important policy documents of this century." He also introduced the Climate Plan Campaign, a bold initiative to accelerate climate action. The big question now is: Will the NDCs finalized at COP29 turn into real action? If countries stick to these commitments, there's genuine hope for a brighter, more sustainable future. After all, hope is what keeps us moving forward, especially in these critical times. The world is watching, and every moment counts. Let’s hope COP29 becomes a turning point, delivering results rather than just promises. #COP29 #COP29Azerbaijan #azarbaijan #Blog #ClimateAction #ClimateCrisis https://lnkd.in/gwa47_VR

🌍 COP29: A Massive Deal, But Is It Enough? 🌍 The dust has settled on COP29, leaving behind a mix of hope and frustration. The $300bn annual climate finance deal by 2035 is historic but for many developing nations, it falls far short of what’s needed. From bitter divisions over funding to China’s quiet ascent as a potential climate leader, this COP exposed deep fractures in the global climate agenda. At the heart of it all: a collective push to “Trump-proof” climate agreements ahead of potential U.S. policy shifts. The question remains will this deal drive real change, or is it just another stopgap measure? Read more about the key takeaways #COP29 #ClimateAction #Sustainability

Should the UK's new climate goals announced at COP29 inspire optimism—or caution? At COP29, the UK government unveiled ambitious new climate targets, including aiming to reduce emissions by 81% by 2035. Keir Starmer has called on other nations to match this ambition, setting the stage for heightened global action. However, COP29 hasn’t been without its challenges. Argentina’s withdrawal, the uncertainty caused by the US election results, plus the event being held in Baku, have added complexity to the discussions. So, is this a bold step forward for the UK, showing a willingness to step forward as a leader on the international scale? Or are there deeper, systemic issues we need to address to ensure meaningful progress? #cop29

🌍Reflections on COP29🌍 #COP29 concluded with a major pledge to triple climate finance for developing nations, targeting $300 billion annually by 2035 to protect lives and build climate resilience. While this is a step forward, criticism remains strong. Developing countries expressed frustration over the continued failure of wealthier nations to meet previous promises. Many argue that the urgency of the climate crisis demands far more than financial targets—it requires immediate, tangible action. COP29 highlighted both the potential of global cooperation and the persistent gap between promises and delivery. The journey toward a fair, just climate transition continues. #ClimateAction #COP29 #Sustainability

🌎 Will #COP29 yield a viable agreement on climate change? Listen to the interview from Aljazeera featuring Harjeet Singh, Global Engagement Director at Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty Innitiative: "The most important issue at COP 29 is finance. And I cannot stress enough since the Paris Agreement and even years before, we have been struggling to get support for developing countries so that they can make a transition away from fossil fuels and protect their people. And as impacts are rising, if they do not get support, people are going to be left on their own." "What we need to see happening at COP 29 is a new collective, quantified goal, as we call it, that has to be agreed, which should be a new version of what was agreed way back in 2009 and was formalized in 2015 as a $100 billion target. But we know we need trillions of dollars annually and not just $100 billion, which has not been achieved." "Finance is at the very core of top 29 climate talks. And if we fail to achieve the goal of setting the target of trillions annually, we will fail by this agreement, and we will also fail people and the planet." 🌍 COP29: A Milestone for Global Carbon Markets 🌍 COP29 in Baku has begun with a historic achievement! Parties have reached consensus on standards for carbon credits under Article 6.4 of the Paris Agreement, paving the way for a high-integrity international carbon market. This critical step will channel resources to developing nations and drive meaningful climate action. 🌿🌎 COP29 President Mukhtar Babayev emphasized the urgency: “We are on a road to ruin…COP29 is the unmissable moment to chart a new path forward.” With ambitious goals set for climate finance, emissions reductions, and adaptation, this summit marks a decisive moment as we approach the end of the first Paris decade. The commitment to a New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG) in climate finance could mobilize hundreds of billions to address the global climate crisis. Together, we can build a sustainable future—but it requires leadership, accountability, and action.💼💚 #COP29 #ClimateAction #ParisAgreement #CarbonMarkets #Sustainability #Article6 #ClimateFinance #UNFCCC #BakuSummit #TogetherForClimate
