🌱 Day 21 of 30: Let’s Talk Compost So what does feeding a Box of Life look like? This is a video submitted to us by Alycia, a new worm momma who shows us how she feeds her wormies. She collects her food scraps in a container, and chops it up into small chunks. (My suggestion is to chop scraps during meal prep before adding it to the container) Next, she digs a hole in wormy ecosystem, places the food in there, and covers it all up. A really important step to prevent flies and unwanted smells. Lastly she adds some wet bedding to balance out the food she’s added. This is a step most people don’t do when feeding a worm bin or composter which eventually leads to anaerobic conditions and muddy compost. You notice how neat and clean everything is right? I’ve learnt a lot about make good compost at home and I share that with folks. It makes composting almost like a ritual and show you how to do it in a much nicer way than you’d imagine. #MakeCompostingMainstream #Vermicomposting

6dWhat a beautiful video, and a super tidy worm farm set-up! It makes me wonder about that very fine line between food scraps that are still edible, and food scraps that most people see as rubbish, and how if we catch the food scraps on the appetising side of that continuum, then we can handle them in our kitchens, with the same knives and chopping boards we use for meal prep.
