🌱 Day 21 of 30: Let’s Talk Compost So what does feeding a Box of Life look like? This is a video submitted to us by Alycia, a new worm momma who shows us how she feeds her wormies. She collects her food scraps in a container, and chops it up into small chunks. (My suggestion is to chop scraps during meal prep before adding it to the container) Next, she digs a hole in wormy ecosystem, places the food in there, and covers it all up. A really important step to prevent flies and unwanted smells. Lastly she adds some wet bedding to balance out the food she’s added. This is a step most people don’t do when feeding a worm bin or composter which eventually leads to anaerobic conditions and muddy compost. You notice how neat and clean everything is right? I’ve learnt a lot about make good compost at home and I share that with folks. It makes composting almost like a ritual and show you how to do it in a much nicer way than you’d imagine. #MakeCompostingMainstream #Vermicomposting

To assess your fruit, examine your roots. The grass isn't always greener on the other side, but if you focus on adding good soil and water, it will flourish and thrive. Your fruits are a reflection of your roots. Mark 4:6-8 #equipped #claudelake

Hey compost enthusiasts! I'm diving into the #CompostChallenge thanks to one of my eco-savvy connections, Jennifer “Jen the Pen” 🖊️ Wallace, and I'm here to scramble some misconceptions about a popular compost ingredient. So, let's crack open the topic of eggshells. Many of us have been tossing them into our home compost heaps, hoping to add a calcium boost to our gardens. But here's a shell shocker: calcium is a mineral, which means it doesn't break down like other compost materials. In fact, eggshells take about 5 to 10 years to decompose. That's more patience than waiting for your avocado to ripen! Here's the twist: if your city collects compostables, then go ahead and include those eggshells. Municipal composting facilities can handle them much better than our backyard bins. This tip is specifically for the home composting heroes. When your compost is finally ready, you might find it's got more eggshell confetti than a birthday party - fun, but not very nutritious for your plants just yet. So, for all the home composters out there, remember: eggshells are a slow-release addition, not an instant magic spell for your soil. But if your city takes care of the composting, feel free to keep adding those shells! And now, to keep the compost conversation growing, I'm tossing the challenge to Grégory Pratte! Show us your compost wisdom, Grégory! 🥚🌼 #EggshellEnigma #CompostWithCare

🌱 The Start of Something Green at Micro Acres OWB! It’s planting day! Here’s a sneak peek at what’s happening in the grow room: ✨ Top Shelf: Sunflower 🌻 and Pea Shoots 🌱 are planted and ready to sprout. ✨ Second Shelf: Radish 🌈, Arugula 🌿, Basil 🌿, and Broccoli 🥦 trays are prepped and settling in. There’s something incredibly rewarding about watching these trays go from seed to harvest. Each one tells its own story of growth, care, and transformation. For me, it’s a reminder of how much beauty and life can come from something so small. No sales pitch here, just sharing a little slice of what I love doing. Growing these greens isn’t just about food; it’s about the process, the patience, and the joy of seeing them thrive. If you’re into the magic of growing or just curious about how this all works, I’d love to chat. What’s something in your life that brings you this kind of simple joy? #PlantingDayStories #MicroAcresLife #GrowAndThrive #OwensboroRoots #SmallMomentsBigImpact
