During the processing of the Estonia’s new Waste Act, stakeholders have continuously raised as the deepest problem that Estonia lacks companies capable of recycling and valorizing sorted plastics. Radio Äripäev visited our CEO Ilo Rannu and asked the same question. The answer surprised the interviewer, as that myth is completely false! When looking at the production capacities, Excel shows exactly the opposite! Estonia has plastic processing capacities, in other words - factories, significantly more than the average for food packaging plastic placed on the market compared to the European Union average. In reality, Estonia's industrial packaging post-sorting is lagging, and the planned legislative changes do not offer a solution. As a result, recycling factories are suffering from a lack of material and are instead importing waste plastic. #neular #plasticwaste #recycling

In case of a price war in the markets for essential products, the situation might be more nuanced - in yesterdays article I argue that price war might not always be beneficial for consumers and perhaps the existence of local production is a value in itself (key words are possibility for investment in innovation and development, food security, carbon footprint etc).

By the way, the entire article is very well and humorously written by Krister Kivi. Matter of Trust Chile Foundation (MoT) and L'Oréal Groupe Chile signed an alliance that seeks to promote the development of products derived from recycled hair at a national level, and thus contribute to caring for the environment through the production of agro-mulch (padding or mulch that allows a 50% reduction in watering of plants) and petropelo (tubular meshes of intertwined hair that are placed around seawater collectors in lakes or rivers, which allow the absorption of polluting hydrocarbons from the water). CorreosChile is a key strategic partner in charge of facilitating transport logistics, allowing hair waste to leave the salon and arrive in a timely manner at the Matter of Trust Foundation collection points. This alliance began with a six-month pilot plan with 25 beauty salons, L'Oréal clients, and contemplates a total period of three years, with the goal of adding 350 hair salons throughout Chile and 30 new collection points. https://lnkd.in/gpg6nU-P
