🚀 Next-Generation Procurement in Europe 🚀 We recently had the privilege of convening 100 brilliant procurement innovators from 26 European governments & EU institutions in sunny Rome. Here's what stood out 👇 1️⃣ A Moment of Transformation: With a new Commission, a fresh Parliament, & exciting national reforms, Europe is poised for change after a "lost decade" of declining competition in procurement. 2️⃣ Data is Key: Unlocking procurement’s potential hinges on better, standardized & interoperable open data. Quality and completeness are crucial. 3️⃣ Better value: As Annamaria La Chimia asked, "Who bears the cost of lowest-price contracts?" Often, it’s workers on insecure contracts or hidden environmental harm. We must focus on unlocking the best long-term value for citizens - both social and environmental - as opposed to lowest price. 4️⃣ Mindset Shift: Procurement needs to evolve from a compliance-driven task to a dynamic, digital public service that enhances government delivery. As Jonaid Myzyri, Chair of Albania’s Public Procurement Commission, emphasized: "Change isn't about technology—it's about mindsets" first. 5️⃣ Collaborative Reform: Our gracious hosts Autorità Nazionale Anticorruzione worked with Open Contracting Partnership to shape a vision for embedding these principles in upcoming European reforms, from new Commission directives to national changes.
