This Thursday, May 16 is Moose Hide Campaign Day, when people wear Moose Hide pins to demonstrate their commitment to honour, respect and protect the women and children in their life, and commit to work with others to end gender-based and domestic violence. Research indicates that at least five conversations are sparked by each Moose Hide pin worn and the campaign has gifted over five million pins. That’s more than 25 million conversations. You can demonstrate your support for a violence free world by wearing a Moose Hide pin. The Moose Hide Campaign is a non-profit organization and a grassroots movement created in British Columbia. In 2011, when Raven Lacerte and her father hunted a moose near Highway 16, the proximity to the Highway of Tears sparked the idea that moose hide could be used as a symbol to stop violence and help undo the effects of residential schools. The campaign began as a way to engage Indigenous and non-Indigenous men and boys in taking a stand against violence towards Indigenous women and children. Since then, it has grown and evolved to engage Indigenous and non-Indigenous people across the country to end violence against all women and children. Promoting the Moose Hide Campaign across the public service demonstrates government’s commitment to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s Calls to Action and to addressing the issues raised by the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. It also supports violence prevention and the safety of Saskatchewan citizens. For those interested in learning more about Moose Hide Campaign Day, please visit their website at https://lnkd.in/gsgkHM-z. In addition to general information, the website will livestream events throughout the day, including speakers and workshops that staff can view as their schedules allow. The livestream will be hosted by Harlan Kingfisher, who’s from Sturgeon Lake First Nation in Saskatchewan.

Marketing Beat looks at some of the most interesting purpose-driven campaigns released so far this year: "Just three months into 2024 and we are already seeing businesses, organisations and charities using their ad budgets to make a positive social impact as they place an increasingly greater emphasis on purpose, rather than profit." Which begs the question, "is appealing to our better nature really the most effective way to grab our attention?" 7 brilliant ads, and the balancing act between making an impact and making the audience cringe, examined by Scarlett Sherriff Thanks Scarlett! #purposedriven #datadriven

Unpopular take: maybe arguing for basic dignity for all human beings *is* political. Certainly, pushing for the opposite (e.g. cereal-for-dinner for poverty afflicted folk) seems to be deemed fair game for ads. If companies are allowed to take advantage of the economic crisis to sell inadequate nutrition to the masses, then not-for-profits should be able to buy air space to "sell" the need for adequate housing. Housing that doesn't kill people. Housing that upholds legal standards of care.
I don't know what's more disturbing about this story: ● The case that this campaign is based on? ● The violations of the human rights to housing and health that have led to 34 children dying in temporary accomodation in the UK between 2019 and 2022? ● That respect for human rights in the UK seems to have deteriorated so much that attempting to promote them is now considered political? ● A private company, Clearcast, stopping this short film by Amnesty International UK being shown on television and preventing its message from being heard more widely? https://lnkd.in/eaXAXTkg This is part of a broader trend in the UK - while politicians are able to freely attack and undermine human rights, the charities standing up for them are increasingly being restricted in what they can say and where they can say it.
