What could be better than completing one project to advance equity for Alaska's energy future - how about two? Greta Laesch, under the mentorship of Michelle Wilber, did just that! For her first project, Greta contributed to an ongoing project aimed at reducing barriers to electric vehicle adoption in Alaska communities! She analyzed utilization patterns and user sentiment about all high-traffic public charging stations in Alaska. She also developed and piloted a user intercept survey instrument that is expected to be deployed in the future! The information gathered by Greta is important to Alaska as it will help inform future electric vehicle supply equipment and expansion efforts! “These projects are valuable only when they are co-created with those who will be directly impacted and I am grateful for the opportunity to learn from those with lived experience in rural Alaska,” says Greta who was inspired by the curiosity and passion exhibited by researchers at ACEP. 📢 Important Op-Ed in the Bay State Banner🌍 In a compelling op-ed published in the The Bay State Banner newspaper , NECEC President Joe Curtatone & Eliza Wilson, Ed.D. Director of Development Operations at Franklin Cummings Tech highlight the significant potential of expanding Massachusetts’ climate tech industry—not only to reduce carbon emissions but also to generate substantial economic opportunities for underserved communities. As industries transition to a climate-focused economy, this shift presents a once-in-a-generation opportunity, with an estimated 40,000 jobs needed to meet our climate objectives. These roles offer more than employment; they provide pathways to well-paying, rewarding careers, particularly for individuals from underserved communities of color. However, maximizing this potential requires strategic collaboration between industry and educational institutions. By developing skills-first training programs, encompassing classroom learning, internships, job placement assistance, and career advancement, we can ensure that the climate economy is both innovative and inclusive, equipping workers with the skills necessary to succeed in this evolving field. Thanks to our partners Beacon Climate Innovations, Schneider Electric PowerOptions, Inc., Ameresco, for their crucial role in advancing this mission. https://lnkd.in/e2nDTZvE #ClimateTech #EconomicOpportunity #CleanEnergy #WorkforceDevelopment

Introducing CC Generations: Conservation Capital's Youth Engagement Platform Conservation Capital is thrilled to announce the launch of *CC Generations* — our innovative new platform designed to engage and empower graduates and young professionals in the early stages of their careers, from all around the world. *Led by Harry Leng*, a former CC intern who spent three years at Rothschild and is currently pursuing an MBA at Stanford Business School, CC Generations will replace the traditional internship model. We’ll be contracting young talents — whether in the midst of their studies or early in their professional journey — to collaborate with CC on select tasks and engagements, flexibly, in their spare time. Our goal? To build a dynamic corps of 10-20 passionate members at any given time, sparking interest in natural capital among those who may not be working in the field full-time, but who have a clear desire to do so. Through this platform, we aim to inspire, educate, and connect young professionals with our focus areas, including progressive nature financing, nature-based solutions, and sustainable business development. We’re also forging strong relationships with leading universities such as Stanford University in the USA, The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) in the UK, and The African Leadership University in Africa, to attract top talent. We’ll be running pilot programs through Q4 2024, with plans to open formal applications in 2025. Stay tuned for more updates and opportunities to join CC Generations in bridging the Nature Financing gap! #CCGenerations #YouthEngagement #NaturalCapital #Sustainability #ProgressiveFinancing

Carbon footprint calculation is an excellent management tool and an easy first step to ensure future operational sustainability. 👉🏼 Conducting scope 1-3 carbon footprint calculations based on the GHG Protocol is a daily task for our team, and the results are utilized to achieve climate goals, minimize operational costs, and secure future operational viability. 👉🏼 Currently, our team's intern, Iida Sinisalo, is starting her thesis work, which examines current practices of companies in utilizing these calculations as well as opportunities to utilize the data more effectively. 💡 Feel free to reach out to me if you would like to participate in Iida's thesis work and gain insights into potential opportunities for improving your own practices!

Case study: "Delivering community benefits from nature restoration work" - Scottish Land Commission x Alys Daniels-Creasey ECCI’s NERC: Natural Environment Research Council Consultancy Programme connects organisations with a PhD student to undertake meaningful research projects connected to climate change - part of The University of Edinburgh's E4 Doctoral Training Partnership. A total of 10 internships were successfully delivered in 2023/24, matching PhD candidates with a range of partners in NERC priority areas. One such partner was the Scottish Land Commission - a public body funded by the Scottish Government that seeks to create a Scotland where land is owned and used in ways that are fair, responsible and productive. SLC was matched with Alys Daniels-Creasey, a PhD student at the University of Edinburgh, who has a background in social sciences and is interested in the local community implications of natural capital markets and environmental/land use decision-making in Scotland. The aim of the placement was to design and conduct interviews and write a summary report on community benefits from nature restoration projects within the Cairngorms National Park. The research sought to understand what participants perceive to be the key community benefits currently delivered by their work, and what they feel are the drivers and constraints related to this. Excited to share some insights from my internship at Coral EV this summer, where I utilized my background in Financial Economics to analyze and evaluate the viability of electric vehicle infrastructure projects, with a focus on state-level incentive programs and private financing opportunities. The insights from this experience have not only deepened my understanding of investment dynamics and financial operations but also strengthened Coral EV's strategic approach to market expansion and project execution. Here are my key takeaways: 1️⃣ State Incentives Drive Utilization: States like Illinois, New York, and Massachusetts, which offer robust financial support through programs like Charge Ready NY, Drive Electric Illinois, and MASSEVIP, see higher utilization rates for EV chargers. These programs reduce upfront costs and create a more attractive investment landscape 📊 2️⃣ Challenges in Less Aggressive States: States with less aggressive incentive programs, such as Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Ohio, exhibit slower growth in EV charger utilization. The data suggests these programs, while helpful, don't fully offset the financial risks associated with EV infrastructure investments in these regions. As a result, investors may hesitate to enter these markets, leading to slower adoption rates and underutilized charging stations 📉 3️⃣ Population Density Matters: High-density states show better EV infrastructure utilization than low-density areas. States like New York and Illinois, which combine strong incentives with select areas of high density populations, create optimal conditions for EV adoption and economic returns 🏙️ 4️⃣ Strategic Planning Insights: These findings underscore the importance of targeted financial incentives in driving EV adoption and long-term viability of EV infrastructure. This allows Coral EV to make informed decisions about resource allocation and project prioritization, maximizing success potential 5️⃣ Gratitude for the Opportunity: A big thank you to Coral EV Co-Founder and Notre Dame alumni John Ziss for this invaluable learning experience. The hands-on skills I gained will be a cornerstone in my career moving forward. Go Irish ☘️ 6️⃣ My Startup Experience: As a young professional, I loved the opportunity to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment where I was trusted with key responsibilities that had a real impact on Coral EV. This enabled me to gain hands-on experience in multiple areas—from financial analysis to strategic planning. This experience has been invaluable in developing my skills and passion for innovation and progress🚀 #EVCharging #GreenTech #FinancialEconomics #ElectricVehicles #CleanEnergy #Infrastructure #CareerGrowth
