The City of Baltimore has announced a $44 million commitment to improving sidewalks and curb ramps over the next four years as part of a settlement agreement under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The IMAGE Center of Maryland, proud co-plaintiff in the 2021 class action lawsuit, celebrates this critical step toward ensuring safe and accessible pedestrian pathways for people with mobility disabilities. We applaud the creation of a dedicated program within the Department of Transportation and the appointment of an ADA Coordinator to oversee these improvements. Accessible sidewalks and curb ramps are essential for full participation in community life. No one should have to risk their safety by traveling in streets alongside vehicular traffic.
