“Ableist ideas and beliefs affect people with disabilities in all aspects of life, including employment, healthcare, education, housing, transportation, etc. These ideas and beliefs create systems that discriminate and oppress people with disabilities.” — THEO W. BRADDY, executive director of The National Council on Independent Living Ableism creates systems that discriminate and oppress, denying individuals their fundamental rights and opportunities. As someone who has faced these challenges firsthand, I know the importance of confronting ableist beliefs head-on and working to create a more inclusive society. By advocating for inclusive practices in employment, healthcare, education, and accessibility, we can empower individuals with disabilities to live their best lives. #Ableism #DisabilityRights #InclusiveSociety#AccessForAll #FightAbleism #DisabilityAwareness #EmpowerAll

Today, we recognize the importance of digital access and inclusion for people with disabilities. As we celebrate Global Accessibility Awareness Day, let's reflect on how far we have come and how much further we need to go to ensure everyone has access to the same digital opportunities. In the spirit of progress and support for accessibility, we urge our fellow Massachusetts residents to actively advocate for continued support of vital programs that make a real difference. Senator Michael D. Brady has filed Amendment 464 to secure crucial funding for our program, which is a vital safety net for individuals with disabilities, seniors, veterans, and families across the state. Here's how you can help: Reach out to your state senator and urge them to co-sponsor Amendment 464 to provide $500,000 in missing annualization funding to support durable medical equipment reuse. You can find your senator's contact information here: https://lnkd.in/eDJhQuG Let's use Global Accessibility Awareness Day as a reminder to champion the causes that help integrate technology and accessibility into everyday life. Each action, each voice, and each effort counts towards building an inclusive future. #GAAD #Accessibility #Inclusion #DigitalAccessForAll #Massachusetts #Legislature #SupportAmendment464 #MAPoli #AssistiveTechnology #DurableMedicalEquipment #Reuse #Recycle #A11y

🚨 Breaking News: Accessibility Wins in Baltimore! The City of Baltimore has announced a $44 million commitment to improving sidewalks and curb ramps over the next four years as part of a settlement agreement under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The IMAGE Center of Maryland, proud co-plaintiff in the 2021 class action lawsuit, celebrates this critical step toward ensuring safe and accessible pedestrian pathways for people with mobility disabilities. We applaud the creation of a dedicated program within the Department of Transportation and the appointment of an ADA Coordinator to oversee these improvements. Accessible sidewalks and curb ramps are essential for full participation in community life. No one should have to risk their safety by traveling in streets alongside vehicular traffic. This settlement is a win, but our work isn’t done. The IMAGE Center remains committed to ensuring Baltimore fulfills its promise and delivers these vital upgrades. 💡 Did you know that over 1 billion people worldwide live with some form of disability, making up about 15% of the global population? Yet, many face significant barriers to education, employment, and social participation due to a lack of accessibility and inclusion. On this International Day of Persons With Disabilities, CSVR reaffirms the importance of a meaningful role of people living with disabilities in transitional justice processes. Increasing inclusiveness means that transitional justice should not only acknowledge issues faced by disabled people but ensure that they are able to fully contribute to transitional justice processes. This #IDPD2024 serves as a reminder that everyone deserves to be seen, heard, and valued – no matter their abilities. CSVR stands with the community of differently abled persons and commits to continue creating spaces that are inclusive and truly accessible for all. #InclusionMatters #DisabilityAwareness #BreakingBarriers
