Wisdom Wednesday: Strength Through Resilience In public safety, every day brings new challenges—and opportunities to grow. Resilience isn’t just about enduring; it’s about thriving. Here are three reminders for women in public safety to keep thriving on the frontlines: ✔️ Prioritize Self-Care: A strong mind and body are your greatest tools. ✔️ Adaptability is Key: Flexibility allows you to face every shift with confidence. ✔️ Lead with Positivity: A positive outlook inspires and uplifts your team. Grande Prairie Police Service Chief Dwayne Lakusta is honoured to have been gifted a buffalo robe by Chief Grant Buckskin of the Blood Tribe Police Service at the Fall 2024 Alberta Association of Chiefs of Police Conference. The hide was designed and painted by Monty Wolf Child of the Kainai First Nation, who explains it is intended to protect whoever wears it. The design includes symbols of internal organs, representing protection, as well as horses and buffalo essential to Blackfoot culture. There are seven of each animal painted, which also have symbols of internal organs and lifelines on them to give them life. "I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Monty Wolf Child and Chief Buckskin," says Chief Lakusta. "It was an immense honour to receive such a beautiful gift, and I truly appreciate your generosity."

Over the past few years, the public safety community has been working towards NG9-1-1, Drones as First Responders, Android Team Awareness Kits, and Artificial intelligence, with varying impacts. While all these capabilities, and many more, are exciting and hold massive promise for community and officer safety, their policy, privacy and governance roadmaps are, in many ways, more important than the actual technologies involved. 📣 Did You Know? In Alberta, only 3.4% of provincial health research funding from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) is dedicated to women’s health. Recognizing this disparity, the Alberta Women’s Health Foundation (AWHF) was launched in 2021 to achieve funding equality and give women in Alberta a stronger voice in health care. This year, Alberta took a significant step forward by committing $26 million to advance women’s health research and care. Part of this funding will go towards the AWHF Legacy Grant, supporting critical research on conditions such as cervical cancer and heart disease. While this progress is inspiring, we must continue advocating for equitable investment in women’s health. 💡 Together, we can #BreakTheBias and drive meaningful change! 🌟 How you can help: • Share your story and help raise awareness: Submit here • Watch our video, “Why Women’s Health Research is Underfunded”, to learn more: YouTube Link: https://lnkd.in/g2GXgNtT Follow the Alberta Women’s Health Foundation: 🔗 Website 📘 Facebook: @abwomenshealthfoundation 🐦 Twitter: @abwomenshealth 📸 Instagram: @abwomenshealthfoundation 💼 LinkedIn: Alberta Women’s Health Foundation 📽️ Video Credits: Produced by: Alberta Women’s Health Foundation 📜 Letter Spotlight: In 2015, engineering student Jared Mauldin highlighted the systemic biases in STEM with a viral letter that continues to inspire efforts to break barriers in male-dominated fields. 💙 Together, we can make a difference. #AWIPS #BreakTheBias
