SCTS 2024 | “Minimally Invasive and Endoscopic AF Ablation” With Timo Weimar | At the Society for Cardiothoracic Surgery Annual Meeting 2024, Professor Timo Weimar presented "Minimally Invasive and Endoscopic AF Ablation." In his presentation, he discussed access limitations in minimally invasive surgery and the fact that access needs to follow optimal therapy to deliver the acceptable current standard of care. 💡 The 82-year-old patient presented with severe symptomatic secondary atrial tricuspid regurgitation due to atrial fibrillation. Nine years ago, he underwent cardiac surgery with replacement of the ascending aorta and the aortic valve. 💔 After discussing the case with the cardiac team, the patient was offered an interventional procedure due to his previous heart surgery and advanced age. Massimo Baudo, MD (pictured), is lead author of a review article finding transcatheter valve-in-valve (ViV-TAVI) intervention can be considered in selected patients who have structural valve deterioration after aortic root replacement surgery. When considering ViV-TAVI, unique technical challenges need to be carefully addressed based on the characteristics of the previous surgery and computed tomography analysis, according to the authors.
