No one should suffer in silence, and it takes collective action to create safe spaces where survivors feel heard, supported, and empowered. This month, we encourage everyone to take meaningful steps—whether by learning the signs, offering support, volunteering, or donating. Domestic violence is a widespread issue that affects millions of individuals across the globe, transcending boundaries of age, race, and socioeconomic status. It manifests in various forms, including physical, emotional, psychological, and financial abuse, leaving deep and lasting scars on survivors. In the face of this pervasive problem, numerous organizations have dedicated themselves to providing essential support and advocacy for those impacted by domestic violence. These charities play a critical role in offering safety, healing, and hope to survivors, while also working tirelessly to prevent further abuse through education, policy advocacy, and community engagement. https://lnkd.in/gx78wBaB

One month into our three-month campaign to raise funds for The Haven - Nepean Women's Shelter and raise awareness of Domestic & Family Violence (DFV). According to the 2022 report from The National Homicide Monitoring Program, in 2019-20, there were 45 intimate partner homicides; 36 of these were female victims (80 per cent). This averages to approximately one woman being killed by an intimate partner every 10 days (Plan 4 Women’s Safety 2022). DFV remains the leading cause of homelessness for women and children. This is unacceptable anywhere in the world, but in Australia, we have no excuse. The work and funds required to keep the doors open for women's shelters aren’t easy. That's why I've chosen to support The Haven - Nepean Women's Shelter and the incredible work they do in providing shelter for Women & Children. Slavery Isn’t History—It’s a Present Reality Today, over 40 million people are trapped in some form of slavery or bondage around the world. It’s a shocking reminder that slavery is still a very real and prevalent issue. This past week, I had the privilege of attending IJM’s Capstone event, where I heard the terrifying and heartbreaking stories of survivors that IJM has rescued. International Justice Mission (IJM) not only frees people from these horrific situations but also works with governments to dismantle the systems that allow such injustices to thrive. Hearing survivors share how they now use their pain to help others escape was both humbling and incredibly inspiring. IJM’s work is vital, and we all have a role to play in this fight. Whether through advocacy, raising awareness, or donating, every action brings us closer to a world where justice prevails for all. Today is World Mental Health Day, which coincides with Domestic Violence Awareness Month; hence, the reason it is important to understand the double stigma that affects many regardless of race, age, gender, and sexual orientation. Today is Colorado Gives Day! Did you know? In 2023, Colorado had the nation's 10th highest number of human trafficking reports. Common Sense Institute did a study with the FBI of the amount of cases reported in 2023 throughout the United States and Colorado ranked 10th highest out of the rest of the states. This alarming statistic underscores the urgent need for awareness and action among Coloradans and the need for support of nonprofits making a difference for this cause. At Covered Colorado, we empower trafficking survivors over the age of 18 toward healing and self-sufficiency. In March of 2025, we will be opening our second safe house focusing on crisis care for trafficking survivors. We have heard from our local partners in law enforcement and other agencies in the state, crisis cases are going up. We at Covered Colorado are determined to meet this need that Colorado is experiencing. We couldn't do this important work without the help of the community. On International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, The Caring Family Foundation is honoured to announce a £225,000 grant to combat domestic abuse and support survivors at a time of year when violence tragically escalates. This funding will provide life-saving resources to organisations, including the The Angelou Centre , Latin American Women's Aid , Karma Nirvana, Refuge, Solace Women's Aid, Advance Charity, Panahghar and Women of Grace UK, ensuring they can continue their critical work to protect and empower women. In the UK, two women lose their lives every week at the hands of a current or former partner, and a domestic abuse offence is recorded every 40 seconds. In Brazil, where eight women experience domestic abuse every minute, The Caring Family Foundation has supported more than 5,000 survivors with emotional, legal, and employability resources, helping them rebuild their lives.
