If our American Founding Fathers wanted an all-White country, they should have stayed in Europe. Instead they colonized a thriving territory, killed most of the Natives, went in to kidnap Black bodies from Africa, and took entire territories in the South West full of Spanish-speaking Mexicans — then descendents have the audacity to ask why America isn’t White. Civil Rights and Social Justice is a restorative approach to remedying consequences of historic legal discrimination and violence against groups. They’re not hand-outs or unConstituonal. The Constitution was never meant to be fixed but transformed as guidance towards a more perfect union. We can’t change our past but we can create trauma-informed policy to heal the nation from historical conflict. Ignoring the consequences of our ancestors’ actions only further degrades our American experience and distances national unity. We don’t have to be blind to race just respectful to it.
