I wish I could use motherhood as part of my "Experience" on my CV. I have 3 young kids, 2 or them twins, and the amount of juggling I have to do to keep everyone happy should be mentioned: Skills acquired since having my twins in 2021: Project management: I basically run a mini-nursery for my twin 2yr olds. I have to organise tasks that are both engaging but not repetitive while also achieving some sort of learning/growth objective. This is not counting dinner time where I become a tiny restaurant server catering for all 3 (my 7yr old included) picky eating. Deadline-oriented: I do the school run when I'm home with girls, which means we must all 4 be dressed and ready to leave in time to walk my son to school each morning. Some days it's fine; some days, I'm coordinating two velociraptors with a sloth.... Coordination and leadership: I must get all 3 of my children to agree with each other through very fine tuned bargaining and manipulation. "If you get in the pushchair, you can have a sweetie." "If you (the 7 year old) can not argue with me for 10 days, you can have that toy you want." "If you can all take a bath and go to bed on time, you can have ice cream for breakfast..." Stuff like that. If only I could market my motherhood skills in a career (since I've had to forgo recent promotion prospects to save on childcare) I'd be getting all sorts of offers, but hey, ho. It's just motherhood, right? 🙄 #careermums #motherhood #workingmum #jobskills

🚨 Government Funded Early Education Scheme – What It Means for the Early Years Sector 🚨 As of September 2024, hundreds of thousands of working parents in England are eligible for 15 hours of free childcare for children aged 9 months and older. While this is great news for families, the new scheme will put increased pressure on the already struggling early years sector. The government has estimated a need for 85,000 extra places and 40,000 additional staff by the end of 2025. This surge in demand creates both challenges and opportunities. Staffing shortages are already a concern in the sector, and the need for skilled, qualified staff will be even greater. But this is where apprenticeships come in. By offering apprenticeships, early years settings can build a qualified workforce while also upskilling existing staff. 🧑🏫 At TicTocs Day Nursery in Preston, apprenticeships have been key to meeting increasing demand and ensuring their staff is fully qualified. "It’s not easy to find qualified staff, but we had time to train up our team," says Deborah Thompson, the owner. 💼 How can apprenticeships support your early years setting? If you're facing similar staffing challenges or looking to upskill your team, apprenticeships are a great solution. We offer: Early Years Practitioner (Level 2) Early Years Educator (Level 3) Early Years Lead Practitioner (Level 5) Want to learn more? There are two new consultations open now, focusing on planned changes to EYFS safeguarding and staff-to-child ratios. I submitted a response yesterday on Swift - Education Apprenticeships behalf, and I encourage everyone in the industry to do the same. Both suggestions have some intriguing points, and I am sure that many people will have differing perspectives on the effectiveness of the proposed changes. After reading through the proposals, I believe that, in general, the proposed changes can be effective and welcomed in the sector; however, a few supporting conditions will be required to ensure that the changes do not dilute the quality of practitioners and, as a result, put too much strain on educators and practitioners. ❗ Effective training, recruitment, and due diligence will be critical to implementing any of these proposed changes. ❗ 1️⃣ Consultation : EYFS Safeguarding The consultation is focused on the ‘proposals to strengthen the EYFS safeguarding requirements and make them more comprehensive for early years providers. This is to ensure that all children are kept as safe as possible in early years settings’ https://lnkd.in/eUH-TZce 2️⃣ Consultation : Ratios and Experience-Based Routes The consultation is focused ‘on proposed changes to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), launched on 31 May 2023, included a proposal to introduce a new experience-based route for early years practitioners to gain approved status to work within staff-to-child ratios.’ https://lnkd.in/ecTSVPsM Pacey have put together a great overview here, which is worth a read; https://lnkd.in/eQ7WSsDD
