Progress in maternal and newborn health has plateaued over the past decade. In 2020, 202,000 mothers died in childbirth in sub-Saharan Africa alone. These deaths are preventable with lifesaving innovations that already exist. As an MNCH advocate, Esther Nasikye of PATH knows firsthand "what is possible when there is the political will and investment to do so." She shares 4️⃣ themes central to strengthening MNCH progress and advocacy, particularly in Africa, in a new blog post: https://lnkd.in/eh7YAuK2 #MaternalHealth #NewbornHealth #MNHMovementMaker

Imagine delivering a pre term baby only to be told that there is no incubator in the hospital. In this part of the country, women prefer seeking maternal services in private hospitals rather than public hospitals. Maternity and New born units in most public hospitals lack incubators, a contribution to the high infant mortality in Kilifi and Kwale Counties. https://lnkd.in/dXX54JFS #health #maternalhealth #newborn

🌍 Accelerate progress to reduce maternal, newborn, and child mortality🌍 With just six years to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), we must accelerate actions to tackle maternal, newborn, and child mortality. Despite significant progress from 2000 to 2015, it has slowed from 2016 to 2022. 🚀 To meet our collective commitment, we need to: · Accelerate progress nine-fold to reduce maternal mortality · Triple efforts to prevent stillbirths · Quadruple efforts to reduce newborn mortality · Quadruple efforts to reduce mortality for children aged 1-59 months Discover six key actions in the brief prepared by Every Newborn Action Plan & Ending Preventable Maternal Mortality (ENAP-EPMM), chaired by WHO, UNICEF, and UNFPA; the Child Survival Action (CSA) Initiative, and PMNCH: https://bit.ly/4cm8sTm #SDGs #HealthforAll

We're excited to announce the launch of our six-month campaign, "Silver Lining For Healthier Families," dedicated to improving maternal, newborn, and child health in Jigawa state. Why It Matters: Jigawa's maternal, newborn, and child health data reveal stark realities, with distressing mortality rates. As per Nigeria Health Watch's available statistics, approximately 1,100 deaths occur per 100,000 live births, alongside infant mortality rate according to the multiple indicator cluster survey [MISC] that stands at 83 deaths per 1,000 live births. These figures underscore the urgency of our mission. Our campaign is dedicated to addressing these challenges head-on through tailored interventions and community empowerment. Our Strategic Approach: -Provision of Birthing Kits: Providing essential kits for safer deliveries to expectant mothers. -Offering Free Ultrasound Services: Providing crucial assistance to pregnant women facing complications, ensuring safer childbirth experiences. -Engagement of Fathers and Communities: Fostering paternal involvement in MNCH through education on kangaroo mother care, promoting diaper-changing initiatives, encouraging active participation in Antenatal care, and challenging traditional gender roles. -Advocating for Kangaroo Mother Care: Championing the adoption of proven methods for premature and low birth weight infants. -Advocating for Routine Immunization: Safeguarding newborns from preventable illnesses through persistent advocacy efforts. We always appreciate the open door partnership with the state Ministry of Health. Let's join forces on this journey toward universal health, starting with our most vulnerable. Your support is instrumental as we work towards a brighter, healthier future for all! TY Danjuma Foundation #healthforall #MNCHChampions #jointhecause #Silverliningng #SLNI

We know respectful care for mothers is so important but respectful care for newborns, in addition to their mothers, has both immediate and lasting benefits too. Learn more in this latest blog published by USAID MOMENTUM where one health centre in Ghana is working to better understand newborns’ experience of care, and particularly the specific needs of small and/or sick newborns, as part of its overall efforts to help strengthen Ghana’s health system for mothers and newborns: https://ow.ly/AaJ850TiEuE

While the country represents 2.4 per cent of the world’s population, it currently contributes 10 per cent of global deaths for pregnant mothers. Latest figures show a maternal mortality rate of 576 per 100,000 live births, the fourth highest on Earth. Each year approximately 262,000 babies die at birth, the world’s second highest national total UNICEF This shows part of the reasons why maternal health care should be greatly implemented Theodara Anavhe Adamu Foundation UNICEF #digitalsolutionsformaternalhealthcare #womenhealthcare
