🌍 Accelerate progress to reduce maternal, newborn, and child mortality🌍 With just six years to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), we must accelerate actions to tackle maternal, newborn, and child mortality. Despite significant progress from 2000 to 2015, it has slowed from 2016 to 2022. 🚀 To meet our collective commitment, we need to: · Accelerate progress nine-fold to reduce maternal mortality · Triple efforts to prevent stillbirths · Quadruple efforts to reduce newborn mortality · Quadruple efforts to reduce mortality for children aged 1-59 months Discover six key actions in the brief prepared by Every Newborn Action Plan & Ending Preventable Maternal Mortality (ENAP-EPMM), chaired by WHO, UNICEF, and UNFPA; the Child Survival Action (CSA) Initiative, and PMNCH: https://bit.ly/4cm8sTm #SDGs #HealthforAll

Progress in maternal and newborn health has plateaued over the past decade. In 2020, 202,000 mothers died in childbirth in sub-Saharan Africa alone. These deaths are preventable with lifesaving innovations that already exist. As an MNCH advocate, Esther Nasikye of PATH knows firsthand "what is possible when there is the political will and investment to do so." She shares 4️⃣ themes central to strengthening MNCH progress and advocacy, particularly in Africa, in a new blog post: https://lnkd.in/eh7YAuK2 #MaternalHealth #NewbornHealth #MNHMovementMaker

In 2020, 202,000 mothers died in childbirth in sub-Saharan Africa—preventable deaths that demand attention. PATH emphasizes the importance of scaling up low-cost, high-impact interventions and strengthening primary health care systems. By championing stronger policies, breaking down silos, investing locally, and leveraging data, progress can be accelerated to ensure mothers and children survive and thrive.

In 2014, the WHO launched the global Every Newborn Action Plan (ENAP) which provides a road map of strategic actions for ending preventable newborn mortality and stillbirth and contributing to reducing maternal mortality and morbidity. 15 of 18 low-resource countries identified as having the highest newborn mortality rates have taken action to improve maternal and newborn care around the time of birth and to save lives by drafting their national ENAPs. Publish your national ENAPs and national policy updates to address maternal and newborn child population at mchandaids.org

According to a new UN report, the number of children dying before age 5 has reached a historic low, thanks to decades of commitment to providing quality, affordable healthcare. However, data gaps in low-resource regions like sub-Saharan Africa and Southern Asia may obscure the full scale of the challenge. This milestone offers hope, but also a call to action - to redouble our commitment to ensuring every child, no matter where they are born, has access to the healthcare they deserve. #GlobalHealth #EndPreventableDeaths https://lnkd.in/gz8RvXyY

Children's right to life, survival and development: great progress, globally. And yet 'At current rates, 59 countries will miss the SDG under-5 mortality target, and 64 countries will fall short of the newborn mortality goal. That means an estimated 35 million children will die before reaching their fifth birthday by 2030—a death toll that will largely be borne by families in sub-Saharan Africa and Southern Asia or in low- and lower-middle-income countries.' Still much to do... https://lnkd.in/gan8A_va
