“How do others perceive you?” If you’re Neurodivergent, this question may often cross your mind. Many of us may appear quiet, reserved, or distant. To others, this can be misinterpreted as being unfriendly, rude, or even standoffish. I’ve heard it myself: • “Your look is nasty.” • “Not talking to them is rude.” • “Why didn’t you give them a hug?” But what they don’t see are the real reasons: anxiety, PTSD, depression, OCD, Autism, chronic pain, or so much more. These invisible challenges shape how we interact with the world—and they are often misunderstood. Judging someone based on surface-level impressions isn’t fair. Actions matter. Compassion matters. You never know what someone is going through. Transgender patients spend more time in substance use treatment compared to cisgender people. This could be because they enter treatment with more mental health challenges such as PTSD symptoms and suicidal ideation. This is the most important thing in the world if you want to combat your anxiety! 🔺 We overestimate our ability to self-regulate (solve conflicts on our own). Although being alone can be grounding and necessary, we may isolate for too long and try to figure everything out alone. 🔺 Time passes, and we are left with the false sense that everything is resolved. In reality, our emotions and thoughts may be still bubbling under the surface. 🔺 Those emotions accumulate until your body starts manifesting symptoms of anxiety and stress: palpitations, tremors, shortness of breath, ruminating thoughts and more.
