For decades, #globalgrowth has been driven by #fossilfuels, leading to #climatechange and environmental degradation. This challenge is particularly significant for the #GlobalSouth, which must balance #climateaction with growth aspirations and #developmentgoals. High-quality #research, innovative #policies, cutting-edge #technologies, and a well-educated workforce are some of the most important tools to address this challenge. Ahmedabad University has launched The Climate Institute to address these challenges, focusing on three key aspects of research, education and impact. The Institute is developing India’s first comprehensive #Climate, #Energy, and #Environmentaleducation programme, preparing future leaders to tackle global climate issues. In the realm of research, it is expanding its capacity by recruiting new faculty, graduate student and postdoctoral researchers, encouraging interdisciplinary exploration. The Institute’s impact will be amplified by national and international partnerships that translate research into actionable policies while #incubating and accelerating innovative approaches to address pressing environmental issues. The torrid heatwave conditions this summer in the plains of North India should be proof enough to place climate adaptation on a "burning platform" priority. Nearly 1.1 billion lives in India most of who work outdoors and/or live under tin/asbestos roof sheets are at risk of extreme heat. To them, mechanical cooling solutions do not make sense from an economic or an environmental viewpoint. Passive Daytime Cooling Solutions (PDCS) such as the one highlighted in this article offer a sliver of hope, but require catalytic investments to evolve from the confines of lab testing to mass scale deployment. There are voluntary carbon credit methodologies aplenty today for renewable energy and agro-forestry projects. Likewise, blended finance proponents have showcased manifold success stories in education and health sectors. It's about time we channelised such innovative financing solutions towards equally (if not more!) pressing issues around climate adaptation. #climateadaptation #extremeheat #climatefinance #carboncredits #carbonmethodologies #blendedfinance Sculpt Partners

GAMECHANGERS FOR GAIA CLIMATE CLOCK: The Climate Clock is a powerful symbol of our planet's urgency. Factoring in current emission trends, the Climate Clock indicates how quickly the Earth is approaching 1.5 degrees Celsius of global warning. It also shows CO2 emissions already emitted. It's ticking down, reminding us of the time left to address climate change before it's too late. Stay tuned for more insights on how we can take action and make a difference. #climateclock #didyouknow #globalwarming #climateaction #CO2emissions #climatecrisis #actnow #climateemergency #sustainability IIT MADRAS ALUMNI ASSOCIATION | Nandakumar E, CEO, ICCW | Ekaagra Social & Microfinance Foundation | PEC GREENING INDIA | Abirami Dev | Nishani Manohar | Nandakumar E | Biren Vora | Vivek Atray | Shivam Batra | Dr. Mala Singh | Dr Venkateswaran P. | Shivom Management Services

#NewStudy | Impact of Select Climate Policies on India’s Emissions Pathway 🚨India’s current climate policies are projected to reduce ~4 billion tonnes of CO2 emissions between 2020 & 2030🚨 In a first-of-its-kind assessment that models how India’s climate policies have collectively saved emissions, the latest #CEEWstudy finds that India’s climate policies on power, transport, and residential sectors have saved 440 MtCO2 from 2015 to 2020. This saving is equivalent to nearly 1.6 times the European Union’s emissions in 2023. Policies like the National Solar Mission, FAME I & II schemes, Standards & Labelling scheme, and UJALA programme (across Power, Residential and Transports sectors respectively) have pushed India towards a higher share of renewables in its energy mix, increased adoption of electric vehicles, and improved energy efficiency in domestic air conditioning and lighting. While current policies have set India on the right path, with solar and wind expected to make up 43% of India’s electricity generation by 2050 as compared to 3% in 2015, further policy enhancements are crucial for achieving India’s 2070 net-zero targets. EARTHDAY.ORG - India is delighted to welcome Eco-Network Global as part of our Climate Education Hub in Bangladesh. The Founder of Eco Net, Shamim Ahmed Mridha, is our My Future My Voice Youth Ambassador in Bangladesh. Shamim Ahmed Mridha, who advocates for Renewable Energy, will start by promoting Energy Literacy Training (ELT) to understand energy, climate change, and its solutions. Without Energy Literacy, we tend to misuse, overuse, and inefficiently use energy. Do the online course within a few hours and receive an international certificate at www.es-pal.org. Climate Education Hubs will promote climate literacy among youth and teachers. Understanding climate change is vital in addressing the challenges of the 21st century. The Climate Education Hub aims to simplify complex topics, making them accessible and engaging for everyone. Let us learn to adopt low-carbon lifestyles to reduce our carbon footprint. #EarthDayEveryDay #ClimateChange #ClimateLiteracy #ClimateAction #InvestInOurPlanet #climateeducation #RestoreOurEarth #ActsOfGreen #EveryActCounts #EndPlasticPollution #PlanetVsPlastics #ProtectOurSpecies #ClimateEmergency #GreatGlobalCleanUp #Plasticdetox #MyPlanetMyCloset #FashionFortheEarth #TheCanopyProject #EndPlastics #RenewablesForGrowth
