⁉ Anyone can do a task, however, as hotel/motel business owners and managers we want our relief managers and housekeeping teams to care and take pride in their work. 😢 Too often owners and managers say, ‘Well, I pay them to work, so they should do a good job.’ When it is considered that payment is the only reward required, the relief managers and housekeeping team will ‘do the job,’ and often that is all.....just! 🤔 However, if in addition efforts are appreciated and acknowledged, relief managers and your housekeeping team will begin to ‘own’ their jobs and suddenly all tasks are undertaken to a higher standard and with a more positive attitude. 😀 Heck, they might even enjoy themselves and have fun! I don’t know about you, but when I am having fun, I feel energetic and ready to do anything, just how you want your relief managers and housekeeping teams to feel, right? #Management #motel #motels #hotelsandresorts #housekeeping #housekeepingteam #housekeepingservices #housekeepingjobs #appreciationpost #thankyou #contractorservices BWH Hotels Australasia

As Housekeeping Appreciation Week draws to a close, I’ll take a punt that 80% of GMs have not acknowledged their Head Housekeeper this week.🤬 I am connected with many Head Housekeepers in my professional network and I follow 100s of hotels. The posts I have seen this week celebrating the hard work of housekeeping teams have mostly come from other housekeepers. This has led me to wonder if GMs are unaware of this important week. 🍂Once a year, at the end of the summer season, housekeeping takes a moment to reflect and pat themselves on the back. Head Housekeepers evaluate the season, team performance, guest scores, relationships with other departments, budget adherence, and the level of support and appreciation from their GM. Do not underestimate the importance of that last one! This is also the time when HHKs decide whether they want to return for another season. A small gesture of appreciation can have a significant impact and does not have to be expensive. 🍔It could be a meal for two in the restaurant. 🏩a complimentary night's stay in a partner hotel. a spa treatment. ⛳a round of golf. or a gift like flowers, chocolate, wine, whisky, or perfume - something you know your HHK would appreciate. I look forward to my feed being flooded with smiling HHks tomorrow. 💐💐💐 If your HHK does decide to leave, feel free to contact me for their exit interview/handover plan. If you have had a revolving door of HHKs I can help provide insights on how to retain their replacement. #GM #GMs #Hotels #Hotelsandresorts #caravanparks #tourism #Housekeeping

Peak Housekeeping Performance: Can Time & Motion Studies Help? Amid ongoing labor shortages, rising costs, and market volatility, hoteliers are determined to leave no stone unturned to save time, money, and resources. Drawing inspiration from the industrial manufacturing sector, hospitality leaders often recommend ‘time and motion studies’ to optimize housekeeping processes. But, are time and motion studies effective? Read our blog to learn why veteran housekeeping managers frequently commission these studies: https://lnkd.in/g8SiftNH #HospitalityStrategies #HotelOperations #HotelHousekeeping

In a column for Housekeeping Today magazine, BCC Chair Delia Cannings urges employers to make the wellbeing of hotel housekeepers their highest priority. Hotel housekeepers are at higher risk of injury or accident than staff in other service sectors, she says. Read Delia's column in full here: https://lnkd.in/e4jHjxSc #housekeeping #hotels #cleaning

As a hotel housekeeping manager, do you dread doing room inspections and coaching? It's tough to balance time spent inspecting, giving feedback, and keeping staff motivated. But skipping quality checks might lead to disappointment for guests. 😔 I'm pretty sure you've seen the frustration firsthand - housekeepers feeing micromanaged and managers overwhelmed. But of course, without coaching, bad habits and missed standards creep in. A few notes from this article that stand out: - In 2024, hotels across the US are expected to collectively shell out $123 billion in compensation — up more than 20% from 2019, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing data from the American Hotel & Lodging Association. - Hotels are still paring back amenities like daily housekeeping services, which were originally reduced or eliminated entirely during the pandemic. Some 70% of hotels have reduced or eliminated amenities and services on-site in response to staffing shortfalls. - In addition, the workers that are on staff are being asked to do more, such as check in guests at the front desk and mix up beverages behind the bar when needed, per The Journal, while the same employees that are doing laundry are helping with housekeeping duties. #hotelier #hotel #hotelmanagement #hotelsales #hotelmarket #hospitality #hotelpayroll #boutiquehotel

#WhyRoomsDivision. Rooms being the core products of a hotel business are managed by the department of ‘rooms division’.However, not all hotels, particularly some small-scaled ones have rooms division due to their limited room numbers and human resources. Rooms division usually comprises two major departments – front office and housekeeping. Rooms division also comprises other sub-units such as Reservations, Telephone and Uniformed Service. Sometimes, these three sub-units are grouped under the front office for simplicity. In general, the rooms division comprises two major departments, the front office and housekeeping, which are involved in the sales or services of rooms to guests. The two departments therefore work hand in hand; e.g front office depends heavily on housekeeping for their cleaning of rooms before they can be sold to the guests,Managers of the two major departments would find it quite difficult to resolve problems and it is quite obvious that they may sometimes have bias in protecting their own staff. The position of director in rooms division helps solving this problem as he/she is the onlyone who manages both departments. The position requires the manager to have solid experience in both front office and housekeeping who will have a better understanding of the operations and strategies in handing the conflicts between the two departments.
