When coaching during 1-on-1 meetings, remember to focus on asking the right questions that help your team gain clarity and confidence. Consider the "flashlight" approach: your questions should illuminate the problem and guide them toward their own solutions. Incorporate the 4 C's—Clarity, Compassion, Conviction, and Confidence—to help your team navigate challenges and grow independently. Regularly reflect on your coaching style and experiment with these techniques to foster more effective and empowering conversations. https://lnkd.in/egaeXkUw

“I keep hearing you saying ‘directionality.’ What is that? I have never heard of this in coaching before.” This question was posed in one of my recent free Q&A sessions for professional coaches. Directionality is a term that I have begun using to describe how we coach and foster deeper and safer conversations. I always think about the qualities needed to create deeper partnership and safety for each client. We need safety to work on the deeper, more important issues that are required to change actions and, ultimately, results. In my latest blog article: Directionality: Crafting Purposeful Coaching Conversations I dive deep on this topic. I invite you to share your thoughts with me on how you foster partnership. Direct communication is a skill that sets exceptional coaches apart from the rest. It’s about transcending the role of a directive authority figure and becoming a compassionate observer. When you communicate directly, you cease to be the “know-it-all” coach. Instead, you adopt the role of a curious friend, a compassionate listener, and a perceptive observer. You’ll learn to state your observations and intuitions from a neutral standpoint and invite your client to participate actively in the conversation. Imagine a coaching session with a client who’s struggling to achieve their goals. A directive approach might involve saying, “You’re lagging behind on your goals; you need to do more.” In contrast, a powerful direct approach would sound like, “I’ve noticed that over the last few conversations, you haven’t been able to follow through on your commitments. What do you think might be happening here?” Direct communication is the cornerstone of trust-building in coaching relationships. It’s about creating an atmosphere where your clients feel safe to share, explore, and grow. When you’re direct with your clients, it feels like you’re a compassionate friend who genuinely cares about their progress. Your words aren’t delivered as judgments from an authoritarian figure. Visualize a coaching session where a client grapples with self-doubt. A directive approach might involve saying, “You need to believe in yourself more.” However, a direct approach would sound like, “I’ve noticed moments when you doubt your abilities. How does this self-doubt impact your progress?” So, I invite you to reflect on this question: How can you shift from being the "know-it-all" coach to a compassionate observer in your coaching sessions? 👇 Keep playing your infinite game, Coach Sid #coaching #coach #personalgrowth #growthmindset #wellness

Do you wish you could try out speaker coaching, and cannot commit to a 6 month term? Mini-coaching might be for you! From now until December 31, I am accepting two more coaching clients under this new mini-coaching program. Unlike my typical coaching program, this one has 6 coaching sessions, and is priced at $1950. This includes a $300 discount from my longer Speaker Kickstart Coaching program. There are two payment options- in full or 2 payments of $975 each. I am asking that you fulfill your coaching sessions before March 31, 2025. This will be a great way to kick off your speaking journey in the first quarter of the new year, with dedicated coaching support in a fraction of the time. What could you accomplish inside of mini-coaching? 1) Rehearse and refine a booked presentation that you will be delivering in the next quarter. I will provide presentation skills coaching with both verbal and written feedback, as well as record our sessions for additional refining. 2) Clarify your signature speech topic and write the outline to include your main audience takeaways, plus identify the most powerful call to action that doesn't annoy your audience 3) Create a hot list of speaking leads and receive support throughout the application and follow-up process. The fortune is in the follow-up, and if you don't have a process in place, this is perfect for you. As a fun bonus, I will also provide you with a replay of Your Speaking Vision, a 90 minute recording on how to be very intentional and strategic with speaking opportunities. If you are interested in this offer, email me at jegoswam@bweightless.com, or send me a private message. Here's to an amazing kickstart to your 2025 speaking goals!

When in doubt while on your coaching journey, reflect on how often you say "I think you should..", "I used to" in your conversations, specifically in coaching conversations. "You should", "you must", "what you can do is"- are all about being directive Doling out unsolicited advice is a big no-no. I interact with many friends or colleagues who are established and seasoned coaches but they are always giving advice without asking me what I have already done or what my current reality is. Active listening and Asking powerful reflection questions are tools Leaders as Coaches can tap into. "I used to", "In my days", "When I was a xyz like you" - are Empathy blockers. Unless the coachee asks you to share your journey or when coachee feels inadequate and thinks they are the reason for circumstances around them. Empathetic listening and asking powerful questions can be tools that can be used. The verbiage always tips things in favor or against. Therefore, all said and done, Communication is the crux of everything.
