Happy Veterans’ Day! I have to admit, I’ve been meaning to make this post for years. My time in service, for those that know me, was full of tremendous highs and devastating lows. When I left the service, Lord knows, I was DONE! But as time goes on, I often find myself reflecting upon my service and I find much pride when taking inventory of the many lessons learned during my time in service to my country. Here are a few that I feel are as relevant today as ever. 1. Chill out, it’s not that serious! Nothing is life or death… unless it’s life or death. 2. You’re way stronger than you believe you are. There’s nothing you can’t withstand for a Year; If not a year, a Month; If not a month, a Week; If not a week, a Day; If not a day, an Hour… Minute… Second 3. All differences can be overcome when working towards a shared goal. Sounds cliché, but I’ve seen it! 4. Control what is in your power to control. The rest is just noise! 5. Surround yourself with as many people as you can… Who are NOT like you! There’s strength in diversity – we fill each other’s gaps! This is clearly an abridged list. The lessons learned while serving in the US Army are too vast to include here. Some lessons, I’m sill only just beginning to understand. All in all, though, I’m better for having served. I’m better for the people I’ve met, the things I’ve seen, and places I’ve been. Thank you to all my fellow Veterans! Today is your day, Enjoy it!

Happy memorial day weekend. As we all get together with family and friends and remeber those who have fallen, please mind what you say to people especially veterans. Our words have power. The power to bring life or the power to mend a browkn soul, and sadley the power to destroy. So take time. Listen to what your friends and family are saying. And choose how you will respond. I encourage you to watch this short video. https://lnkd.in/gNz2btv4

From Brother Roo…🙏🏼😔🫡🫡🫡🫡🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🫵 We veterans do take this very seriously: Here's some ground rules for this weekend: 1. Don't wish me a Happy Memorial Day! There is nothing happy about brave men and women dying. 2. It's not a holiday, it's a remembrance. 3. If you want to know the true meaning, visit Arlington or your local VA or local Veterans Cemetery. 4. Don't talk to me how great any one political power is. Talk to me about Eugene Ashley, Brian Bucher, Nate Chapman, John Levitow, Jon Mills, Mitch Nelson, Chris Kyle, Neil Roberts, John Chapman, Robert Miller and countless other of our Special Forces heroes too numerous to name who made the ultimate sacrifice. Attend a Bell Ceremony, Roll Call or any other type and shed some tears. 5. Don't tell me I don't know what I am talking about, I have carried the burden all too many times for Warriors who now stand their post with God. 6. Remember the Fallen for all the Good they did while they were here. 7. Reach out and let a Vet know you're there, we're losing too many in "peace". One more thing, as a Veteran, when you come together, when you have that BBQ, before you eat, circle up and say a prayer. Raise a glass to your Brothers and Sisters that are gone. Then you don't say a word. After that, eat and enjoy each others company.

Today, on Veterans Day, I’m reflecting on what it means to serve — not just in uniform, but in life. Service isn’t just a job; it’s a commitment to something bigger than yourself. Man, veterans understand this better than anyone. They’ve experienced the weight of responsibility, the courage it takes to stand in the face of fear, and the discipline to keep moving forward when others would step back. 1 / Service is about sacrifice — giving up comfort, sometimes even safety, for a purpose that others may never see or understand. It’s a choice to put others first, to act with integrity, and to honor commitments, even when no one’s watching. 2 / Today, as we honor those who’ve served, let’s ask ourselves: What do we serve? How often do we look beyond ourselves to a cause or a mission that truly matters? Because the principles that veterans embody—courage, duty, selflessness—aren’t just for the battlefield. They’re for life. 3 / The best way to honor our veterans is to carry those values forward in our own lives, in whatever small ways we can. To all who’ve served, thank you for reminding us what true dedication looks like.

1.14 million. It's the population of Baltimore, MD and Albuquerque, NM combined. Taylor Swift sold that many copies of her album Midnights. It's the number of millionaires living in California. Also, according to the Veterans Administration, the estimate of the number of servicemembers lost in conflicts fought by the United States. On one hand, it is altogether fitting that we should dedicate a day to remember and honor those that made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our country and our allies. On the other hand, the immensity of this number and the loss it encompasses is staggering. Tragic. For each servicemember counted, there are family members and friends, platoon-, ship-, and squadron-mates that are impacted by these losses. Often for the rest of their lives. Those impacts far outlive the length of time one may know the servicemember that didn't make it home. It is certainly true for me, and I know I am not alone in this amongst my colleagues. There is often a fusion of Memorial Day and Veteran's Day in people's minds. Simply put, it is never a bad time to thank a veteran for their service, but Memorial Day isn't for those of us that remain. There is also the tendency to focus on celebrating the start of summer instead of remembering the original reason for the holiday. This is not to say we shouldn't enjoy time with family and friends. Quite the opposite. There few better ways to honor a sacrifice than celebrating what it provides. Only a humble request to add something simple to your agenda. During this time off and all the benefits to mind, body and spirit that it hopefully gives to you, consider taking a moment or two to reflect, in whatever manner you choose, on the purpose for and significance of the Memorial Day holiday

Today, on Veterans Day, I’m reflecting on the meaning of service—not just in uniform, but in every part of life. Service isn’t merely a job; it’s a commitment to something larger than oneself. It’s about sacrifice—giving up comfort and, at times, even safety, for a purpose that may never be fully seen or understood. It’s choosing to put others first, acting with integrity, and upholding commitments, even when no one is watching. Veterans understand this better than anyone. They’ve shouldered immense responsibility, faced fear with courage, and shown the discipline to keep moving forward when others might have stepped back. As we honor those who have served, let’s also think about our own call to service. What cause or mission do we serve? How often do we look beyond ourselves to contribute to something meaningful? Because the values veterans represent—courage, duty, and selflessness—aren’t confined to the battlefield. They are principles we can all live by. The most meaningful way to honor our veterans is by embracing those values in our daily lives, however we can. To everyone who has served, thank you for teaching us the true meaning of dedication.

Happy Veteran's Day. Historically Veteran's Day was a response to the end of World War I—the war to end all wars (comical in hindsight, I suppose)—and an opportunity to pay respect and consider the lives lost, the lives disrupted, and overall the great sacrifices all soldiers made in their fight to keep the world safe from oppression and conquest. In modern times, we extend the same respect to all soldiers and members of the US armed forces, regardless of the moment in time or the battles they faced. As the US Department of Veterans Affairs states, the day is: "a celebration to honor America’s veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good." I was reflecting, just today, on the fact that so many of us have a relationship with the armed forces. If you haven't yourself served in the military, you're likely to have a relative or ancestor who did, and in that way we are all so deeply connected to the multi-generational fight for freedom. Personally, I have a direct lineage to ancestors who fought in many wars (some wars more respectable than others) including the Revolutionary War—the battle to free our country from the monarchy. In today's political climate, that fight for freedom is all the more dire and important. Year after year, we're finding ourselves losing freedoms and protections that our ancestors fought and literally died for. We cannot take them in vain or allow ourselves to become apathetic. This Veteran's Day I'm hopeful we can take time to think about those historic sacrifices, think about our place in history and our responsibilities to one another and our progeny, and reaffirm our commitments to freedom and justice as a community and as Americans. 🇺🇸🫡
