DON'T Take Wild Corals Home Have you ever thought about creating your own mini-ocean at home? It’s not as simple as it sounds. While you can add ocean rocks and corals, a true ocean ecosystem is teeming with bacteria and microorganisms that are hard to recreate. These tiny lifeforms work together to keep the water balanced, something home aquariums struggle to replicate. But don't let that stop you from creating a vibrant marine setup! Teaching ideas: divide your class into groups of four. Each group is assigned a layer to investigate, exploring the ecosystem therein, creating posters/displays/infographics; bring the class back together and each 'layer' presents its findings. A generic worksheet is given to each learner, including thought provoking questions, for example about how the ecosystems in each layer overlap/interact, encouraging the children to think of the bigger picture ... I am just getting going with teaching ideas for this beautiful and wonderfully informative infographic!!! :) #teaching #education #ClimateAction #STEM Teaching Macmillan Education Education World Forum OUP Education Dukes Education 🔵 Unlearning Zone United Nations Unblock Creativity

The Bearded Worm What's the link between your home aquarium and the mysterious deep-sea vents? You might be surprised to learn that bearded worms, distant cousins of the fiery bearded worm, call these hydrothermal vents their home. These vents, located where tectonic plates meet, were once thought too dark and hot to support complex life. Yet, these worms have evolved to feast on phytoplankton, bacteria, and other organisms thriving off these vents. Isn't it fascinating how life adapts to the most extreme conditions? Comment "fish" below if you found this deep sea fact fascinating and want to enjoy 25% off on Dr. Tim's Aquatics products! #DeepSeaLife #AquariumCare #HydrothermalVents

It's #NationalMothWeek! 🦋 Often overshadowed by butterflies, moths play a crucial role in the health of our ecosystems. Scientists even estimate that there are ten times more moth species than butterfly species in the world! Many moths are also nocturnal, flitting from flower to flower under the cover of darkness. Moths are also an essential food source for a variety of animals, including birds and bats, thereby supporting the intricate web of life. And the presence of moths can be an indicator of a healthy environment, as they are sensitive to changes in the ecological balance. Discover more about how moths and other peculiar pollinators are vital to the health of the Midwest's ecosystems. https://lnkd.in/ekUJaC_m
