Wine and Wellness: Where is the wine in all of this? Longevity and good health have their roots in epigenetics far more than even originally thought. "Epigenetics is the study of how your behaviors and environment can cause changes that affect the way your genes work." It is the foundation of longevity. With the attention on global Blue Zones, it is an excellent opportunity to review some of the commonalities among those populations as pointed out by the researchers: 👉 As one example, the rate of Sardinians that exceed 100 years in age is 10 times that of the United States. 👉 They consume real food, including a glass or two of wine daily. 👉 Fasting is also a daily event; late afternoon meals are the lightest and they don't eat again until next day. (No language for "snacks".) 👉 Faith and family are central to their lives. 👉 They move their bodies with daily activities. 👉 The deeper connection of a spouse or life partner adds to their longevity. 👉 They are active with social circles and have a life purpose. 👉 With daily naps, they make time for rest. Human beings are meant to be social. Gathering around a table filled with our loved ones, the experience of sharing real food and wine bring joy, ramp up the happy hormones and provides a necessary ingredient for longevity. 🍷 #wine #wineandspirits #BlueZone #epigenetics #winemaking #winery #vineyard #winebusiness #craftspirits #wines #health #wellness #longevity #healthandwellness #fasting #keto #lowcarb https://lnkd.in/g7SyAkR5

A small village of just 200 people has something the whole world wants. Longer life. How do they get it? A diet—but one with no calorie counts. Here’s how people count their age, not their calories to live past 100: The village of Pioppi is a small costal area in the south of Italy. The clean, brisk air fills your lungs. Beautiful aromas from freshly cooked dishes dance with your nostrils. And the sound of laughter from people young to over 100 years of age fill the Pioppi village streets. This place boasts as one of the world’s healthiest. Their secret is in their diet. The Pioppi diet. The Pioppi diet consists of a Mediterranean cuisine— low carbohydrate and high fat. Alongside exercise, socializing and at least 7 hours of sleep a day, people eat: ·Vegetables ·Fish ·Nuts & seeds ·Olive & coconut oil Whilst traditional Italian ingredients like pasta and potatoes are avoided. The high vegetable intake, minimal processing and low red meat content of the diet helps people with their vitality and extend their life expectancy. So if you’re looking for a new way to plate up your meals, consider trying the Pioppi way of life. Whether you’re there in person, or visit through your dinner plate. #Food #Health #Wellness #Eating #Holistic #Travel #LifeExpectancy

What helps when facing the current times? I've been greatly influenced by Sandor Katz and his book “Fermentation as Metaphor”. It prompted me to experiment with various South Asian vegetables and fruits from the local farmer's market. In my fridge from left to right: homemade ketchup, sauerkraut, ginger pickle, mango-chilli mix, fermented carrot-seaweed, kimchi juice, more sauerkraut, more carrots. Sandor calls our attention: “Our way of life is proving to be unsustainable. We need to reimagine how we live our lives. Now more than ever, we need the bubbling transformative power of fermentation”. Surprisingly enough, as we engage and witness the metamorphosis of the vegetables and the rising bubbles, we undergo our own transformation. I'm thrilled to see that the often overlooked art of cooking is now being recognized for its incredible ability to sustain life! Here is an excerpt of the book to get inspired and reflect: https://lnkd.in/eChFh4_i And yes, I write on the jars and speak with the veggies.. they are alive, so I am. #kitchenthatreconnects #culinarymindfulness #mindfulcooking #mindfuleating #facilitation #selfawareness #homecooking #personalgrowth #transformation #wholeness #midlifecoach #culinarymedicine

Hey connections! Thought I'd share a slice of wisdom on this sunny Saturday about the power of local food and drinks, inspired by my latest Street Stall adventure. We've all seen them. The glittering aisles of "classic" health foods: chia seeds flown in from Saturn (or something equally exotic), kale chips that cost more than a monthly Netflix subscription, and the holy grail – green juices that promise eternal youth but taste like the sweat of overworked celery. And let's not forget the dieticians recommending "essential" elixirs with the enthusiasm of someone selling snake oil. Detox water with Himalayan salt and unicorn tears? Oh please, just give me good old tap water, thank you very much. But here's my light bulb moment: amidst the blinding sparkle of these superfoods, we often overlook the treasures right in our backyard. Yes, folks, I'm talking about local food! The produce that's grown just a stone's throw away. Fresh, affordable, and shockingly down-to-earth (quite literally). Why pay a fortune for organic avocados that have been coddled in California, when you could savor a juicy mangoe from your neighboring farmer's market? And let’s talk about veggies. Local carrots don’t need a passport stamp or a premium price tag to do wonders for your health. And you know what? They don’t require a PhD to pronounce their ingredients. It’s a simple truth staring us in the face: local food is not only gentler on our wallets but also on our bodies. Cut out the overpriced middlemen and bizarre concoctions that claim to cleanse you more thoroughly than a car wash. Opt for honesty, straight from the soil to your plate. Next time you're planning a meal, skip the strange elixirs and exotic labels. Go local. Support the farmers around you, enjoy what’s in season, and relish the taste of real food – the kind that doesn’t need a fancy marketing campaign to sell itself. Feeling healthier already, and my bank account is thanking me. #EatLocal #RealFood #NoMoreFairyDust Cheers and happy (sane) eating and drinking!!

Indeed, food transcends mere sustenance. It embodies the essence of culture, encapsulating traditions and societal norms. It’s a reflection of habit, the daily rituals that define our lifestyles. Food also represents cravings, those irresistible urges that speak to our deepest sensory desires. And ultimately, it forms a significant part of our identity, linking us to our heritage and personal history. It’s a complex interplay of factors that shape our food choices and preferences, making it a profound expression of who we are. #𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗗𝗼𝘁𝘀 #𝗕𝟰𝗕𝗘𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 #𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 #FoodQuotes #CulinaryTraditions #FoodIsEmotional #FoodAndIdentity #CulinaryJourney #CulinaryHeritage #FoodAndCulture
