Do you have a plan B in life? It will almost certainly kill your Plan A! Yes, this is what a recent survey concluded. As soon as you think that you have something to fall back on, automatically that rigor in you dies or starts to disappear. The study quotes an example of two groups who were asked to solve a complex puzzle. The first group was offered a tasty reward only if the group completed the puzzle. The second group were given the same puzzle, however this time there were told that they can always get the tasty reward from a vending machine, even if the puzzle wasn't solved. So while the Group 1 was able to solve the puzzle, the group 2's puzzle didn't get solved, even though the groups caliber was the same. As you can see, once you have a plan B, automatically your urge to stick to plan A dies. Now how does this work in real life? When I was studying in the UK for ACCA, I never really had in mind that I will stay back in the UK. Or that I will find a job or get married or move to elsewhere in Europe. My Plan A was to complete ACCA, no Plan B! Lo behold, in 3 years, despite working full time most of the time (to cover expenses, London is expensive), and not being the brightest of the group, I was able to complete ACCA. Infact in my last attempt I sat for 3 papers of P level because my visa was running out and I didn't really wanted to stay back. Again for the same reasons, I was able to slog and clear ALL 3 papers in one go. The key message, when you start something, go with 100% If youre doing ACCA, dont think you have a Bcom degree to fall back on. Or a family business or an alternative career to work upon, ONLY focus on completing ACCA, and I assure you, the journey will be a lot more doable. All the best, do consider following me Zaheer A Sayed ACCA for everything ACCA! p.s. Found this pic in the archive, in the middle you see Sanjeev Singh my colleague from previous organisation. And on the left is Sanjay Patyal, he's currently serving Indian army. This is one group who will not have a plan B when they go after the enemy, they go for the WIN! #acca #accaindia #accaexams #accastudents #accaglobal #finance #accounting

The chartered accountancy profession is often overlooked by students in many countries, but in Pakistan, it's considered one of the most valuable professions in terms of remuneration, growth, and demand. The profession offers easy access to the West and Middle East, and the low cost of staff for employers provides significant advantages. However, globally, the profession is often pursued by those with limited options or influenced by family or friends. Chartered accountancy has the lowest intake of members in all professions, except for a few highly sensitive professions. In Pakistan, individuals choose the profession for two reasons: there are no barriers to entry, so anyone can enter the profession, and there is a limited choice of professions in other sectors in the country. The stock market sector listings in the country reflect this limited choice. It's worth noting that in most cases, the chartered accountancy profession is a support service or back-office profession, with only a few people at decision-making level roles. Unfortunately, individuals mostly possess finance skills with limited business expertise. Despite its popularity in Pakistan, students need to consider the reality of the profession globally and weigh their options carefully before pursuing a career in chartered accountancy.

ACCA in South Africa: What You Need to Know Are you considering studying towards the ACCA qualification? Here's a quick overview of key information shared during an insightful presentation by Kadammanja Phiri,FCCA,MCom 1. Accreditation: ACCA is recognized by: PAFA IFAC IRBA SAQA SARS (This means that with the ACCA qualification you can be a tax practitioner in South Africa) FASSET Why This Matters: These accreditations highlight the value of the ACCA qualification, as they reflect its high standards, global recognition, and credibility. ACCA is well-structured and rigorously regulated to ensure its relevance in the ever-evolving finance and accounting landscape. This means ACCA professionals are trusted worldwide for their expertise, ethics, and ability to drive business success. 2. Qualification Structure: ACCA has three levels (details to follow in a future post): Applied Knowledge Applied Skills Strategic Level Exemptions: If you hold a degree from an accredited institution, you should qualify for exemptions. However, exemptions are granted by module, not by degree—so even with an accounting degree, you might not receive full exemptions. It's essential to verify this early on. The ACCA qualification is an NQF Level 8 qualification. You can self study your way through ACCA or, using the traditional route, use approved learning providers (Including but not limited to The University of the Witswatersrand, the University of Johannes, Sol Plaatjie, Nelson Mandela University and the North West University) ACCA is committed to supporting you throughout your journey, ensuring you have access to the resources and information you need to succeed. Stay tuned for more. #ACCA #ACCAStudents #ACCAQualifications #ACCAJourney #FutureofFinance #BDO

Achieving ACCA membership: A time for celebration or reflection? I have never failed an exam before but did twice while sitting for the ACCA professional examinations. Computer-based written exams, working while studying (for MSc, ACCA and PhD), newly immigrated to the UK, dilemma about the next step on immigration status, repaying debt, self-financing the ACCA, self-doubt, discouragements and negative energy from close people are a few of the factors I never had to face in my previous professional examinations. Are these good excuses for my failures? No, but these are the challenges I needed to adjust for to achieve ultimate success within a limited time. However, completing my qualifications within 1 year and 3 months is remarkable. Most importantly, the professional skills, international recognition, and other opportunities ACCA membership offers make the journey worth it. My route to ACCA membership is a journey of resilience, determination and enthusiasm. One would need to reflect to celebrate well enough. A well-deserved congratulations to me. #acca #ThinkAhead #charteredaccountants

You're ACCA qualified? No thanks, I want a CA(SA). If you've HEARD this, tell me your story. If you've SAID this, I want to hear why. The CA(SA) designation as our most prestigious financial qualification. No argument from me, it's understandable. SAICA is South Africa's own. Backed by our Big4 firms, they have dominated the accounting sector in SA for decades. But SAICA is no longer the only path to becoming a Chartered Accountant in South Africa. We've seen the ACCA designation enter our market through foreign nationals in years past, but now you can do your ACCA articles with a local auditing firm! What is the fundamental difference between the two qualifications? Do you think the market will ever accept ACCA as an equal qualification to the CA(SA)? I welcome informed opinions on this matter as I am no expert. #ACCA #CA #SAICA

It is a short article about my ACCA experience. When i tidied my room today and see the previous ACCA materials I used, suddenly I want to write something to talk about it. I only worked through 5 modules in ACCA till today. My original intention to study ACCA is to look for a good job.Though it is not a good time to study ACCA at the start of my degree course, because I will get at least 3 or 4 exemptions if I start to learn ACCA after my graduation.(I am now still a degree student in Newcastle) I went through ACCA starting from the first 3 courses. After taking the exam,my feeling is that it is totally different to get exemptions of the first 3 courses and taking the exams.Although I passed the first 3 modules in the first try,I think it is still not a so easy thing to do,because you must remember so much knowledge related to basic accounting. It is a good test for me to adopt the computer-based exam and I think I can prepare better for the rest exams in ACCA.
