How Mohammed AlShaali took Gulf Craft from a local UAE boat manufacturer to a shipyard with international presence. _____________________________________________________ Last week, the founder and chairman of UAE-Based shipyard Gulf Craft (Gulf Craft Group) Mohammed AlShaali received a lifetime achievement award at the Boat Builder Awards in Amsterdam, recognized for his efforts in building Gulf Craft to the globally successful shipyard it is today. Mr. AlShaali’s contributions to The Middle East cannot be understated. In the same way Mr. AlShaali served as the UAE’s Ambassador to the US, Geneva and the United Nations, the shipyard’s founder has also acted as an emissary to The Middle East leisure marine and boat manufacturing industry to the flourishing sector it is today. How did he turn the unrealistic into a possibility? Hot news from Damen Galati Yesterday, we celebrated a pivotal milestone in the shipbuilding with the official start-off-cutting ceremony held at our shipyard. During this event, we began cutting the first metal parts for two new fully electric ferries, ordered by one of the world's largest ferry operators, BC Ferry from Canada. These vessels will be a proud addition to their extensive fleet, with a total of 10 similar ferries crafted exclusively at Galati. While various teams such as sales, planning & design, project management and purchasing have worked tirelessly to reach this start-cutting milestone, this moment that happens on the production floor holds a unique place in the shipbuilding process It's that very first spark that hits the metal plate that starts shaping the material into something that eventually will become a ship. 🏗️ The Lotus shipyard, located in the Astrakhan region and part of the Southern Center of Shipbuilding and Ship Repair of USC, plans to launch the first four Project 00108 general-purpose dry cargo container ships in 2025. By 2030, the number of vessels of this type will increase to 25 units. 📅 Previously, there were expectations that two of the first Project 00108 dry cargo container ships would be commissioned in 2024, and the other pair in 2025. However, given the current production capabilities and optimization of the construction process, changes were made to the schedule. 🌊 These new vessels will have a general purpose and will be able to effectively transport both bulk and container cargo, which makes them especially relevant for modern logistics needs. 🚀 The implementation of this project is part of Russia's strategy to develop marine shipbuilding and improve cargo transportation, which will strengthen the country's position in the international market and increase the competitiveness of the Russian shipbuilding industry.

VESSEL REVIEW: Norwegian transport company Norled recently took delivery of the first vessel in a new series of four fast catamaran ferries built by local shipyard Oma Baatbyggeri. Named 'Mjølner', the newbuild will be operated on Norled’s express routes between Trondheim and Vanvikan in Trøndelag country in central Norway. The vessel has a length of 28.2 metres (92.5 feet), a beam of nine metres (30 feet), and seating for up to 140 passengers including those with reduced mobility. The hull and the superstructure are made from 100 per cent recyclable, seawater-resistant aluminium. The builder said the strong but lightweight material is ideal for the construction of high-speed boats. According to Bjørn Egil Søndenå, Head of Fast Ferry Operations at Norled, the new catamaran is able to withstand the wind and sea conditions in Trondheim. Captain Joakim Alexander Eide meanwhile remarked that the new ferry represents an improvement over earlier vessels in terms of seaworthiness, noise reduction, and comfort.
