#Commencing first-of-its-kind Pre-Feasibility assessment of In-Situ CO2 Mineralisation in Queensland CarbonCo has commenced a pre-feasibility and business case assessment for in-situ CO2 mineralization in Queensland to support the decarbonisation of hard-to-abate sectors. This exercise is targeted for completion by the end of 2024 to accelerate the planning and execution of the field test early next year. The main purpose of this initiative is to help stakeholders deploy a commercial-scale facility by 2030 to support the net-zero goal. The pre-feasibility assessment will capitalise on geophysical/ petrophysical data published on the Geological Survey of Queensland website. Also, the study will leverage the expertise and experience of similar programs developed worldwide to add value and define risks. Since this is a first-of-its-kind development in Australia and Queensland, collaboration and support from like-minded academic institutions, research organisations, and industries are key to guiding the program towards its end goal. CarbonCo will be privileged to collaborate with local and global experts to make this novel option successful.

Yesterday (October 22nd) I joined the webinar “Lithium Brine Reinjection” organized by the International Lithium Association [ILA]. The event was moderated by Roland Chavasse -Secretary General & Co-Founder/ILA, with guest speakers Stuart Weston -CTO & Principal Reservoir Engineer/Zelandes Stefan Walter -former VP Asset Development/Summit Nanotech, and Marcelo Stainoh -Mine Planning Engineer/Eramet, as they shared the contents of the white paper on brine reinjection (“Recycling Brine for a Greener Future”). The Lithium Brine Reinjection webinar was considered a critically important subject for anyone involved with Direct Lithium Extraction (DLE) and an important aspect of the engineering supporting the DLE process. The event built on the recent publication of the white paper exploring this important topic and the panelists from Zelandez, Summit Nanotech, and Eramine Sudamérica S.A. discussed the key concepts and shared best practices for recycling and reinjecting lithium brine into salars. Presentation Outline: 1. Introduction 2. Why Recycle Brine? 3. Key Challenges 4. System Components 5. Recommendations 6. Case Study: Geochemical Issues at Atacama & Maricunga 7. Case Study: technical Workflow of Reinjection Plan 8. Questions & Answers I also accessed the link to download the industry-led paper (published in August 2024, 78 pages) “Recycling Brine for a Greener Future.”

If you're involved in mineral exploration in Manitoba, please take a moment to share your perspective in this quick and engaging survey for the MPDA!
We are excited to announce the launch of the Exploration Discovered study, an initiative aimed at bringing the various facets of Manitoba’s mineral exploration sector to light. To contribute to the success of Exploration Discovered, MPDA is conducting a survey with members and vendors to collect Indigenous-affiliated participation and procurement-related data covering themes related to social progress contributions and climate innovation. The gathered data will both inform the study and be used to create engaging content, fostering a connection between Manitobans and the mineral exploration sector. The survey, provided by iTOTEM Analytics, will only take 5-10 minutes of your time. The assessment of potential CO2 storage volumes in Late Miocene reservoir was completed in the Algarve sedimentary basin, offshore Portugal . The two technical teams have cooperated through several multidisciplinary studies in order to develop a comprehensive workflow that allows the best understanding of volumes and fluid phase of injected CO2. Given the scarcity of geotechnical data, an adequate assessment of uncertainty is key to reflect the potential upsides and downsides in terms of available injection capacity and therefore properly dimension a development plan that can be a reliable input for national strategic plans.
