We’re really excited to announce that our target year of 2045 to reach net-zero has been approved by the SBTi 🙌 This builds on our previous commitment to achieve #NetZeroCarbon before 2050 in line with the Paris agreement. Our commitments: 🌍 Overall target: To reach net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across the business by 2045 🌍 Near-term targets: To reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 42% by FY2030 from a FY2021 base year. We’ve also committed to reducing absolute scope 3 GHG emissions 25% within the same time frame 🌍 Long-term targets: To reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 90% by FY2045 from a FY2021 base year. The organization has validated that our Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) target ambitions align with a 1.5-degree Celsius trajectory, as recommended by the Paris Agreement. The LYCRA Company has committed to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 50 percent, and Scope 3 GHG emissions from purchased goods and services by 25 percent by 2030. Scope 3 emissions are the indirect greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions not produced by the company directly but are associated with its operations. These emissions are categorized into two segments: upstream and downstream. Upstream emissions refer to those arising from activities before a company’s operations, such as raw material extraction, processing, and transportation of goods. Downstream emissions occur after a company’s operations, involving the distribution, use, and disposal of products. The bifurcation of Scope 3 emissions into upstream and downstream is critical because it helps companies to better understand and manage their entire value chain’s carbon footprint. Addressing these emissions can be challenging, as they are often outside of the company’s direct control. However, their significance is immense; for many businesses, Scope 3 emissions represent the majority of their total emissions. By identifying and mitigating these emissions, companies can reduce their environmental impact, enhance sustainability practices, and align with global climate targets like net-zero commitments. After acquiring Economic Skips in September 2023, we re-baselined our carbon footprint aligned with GHG Protocol and Science Based Targets guidelines. We’ve now integrated Economic Skips' Scope 1 and 2 emissions into our baseline and carbon reporting. As a result of this, we have developed a clear re-baselining policy in line with best practices. ⚠ #CarbonPurity rules could delay essential #ClimateSolutions, including Europe's #CCS ambitions! 🔍 ⚖ The EU is banking on #CarbonCaptureAndStorage (CCS) to mitigate billions of tonnes of #CO₂Emissions, but technical hurdles threaten to delay this crucial technology. The latest guidelines from the European Commission do not adequately address #CO₂PurityStandards, posing a significant challenge for heavy industries. Purifying CO₂ to the high standards demanded by storage operators could render CCS economically unviable. 📢 Director Chris Davies of CCS Europe highlighted that while the legislation reassures the public about CCS safety, it lacks clear standards for CO₂ purity, leaving operators to set their own stringent requirements. This could lead to prohibitively high costs, causing industries to continue emitting CO₂ rather than capturing it. 🎯 The Northern Lights JV project in Norway, set to start in 2025, demands nearly pure CO₂ for storage, reflecting the rigorous standards that could hinder CCS deployment across Europe.
