GAUGING INTEREST The Nielsen Distributor Media Gauge (my reinterpretation below) shows TV at a tipping point, with YouTube beating all comers for TV viewing share in July. But it also begs WAY more questions than it answers: 1. This is a measurement for ADVERTISERS, no? So then, how much of this viewing is in AD SUPPORTED content? No way at all to tell. I CAN tell you that MOST of YouTube's viewing is ad supported whereas ALMOST NONE of Netflix's viewership has ads. As for Amazon - who TF knows? 2. What makes up the 27.7% of viewing that Nielsen doesn't allow us to see? Once again WTFK (who the fork knows)? It's a fun chart to play with. But is it actionable? What are we to do with this information? Makes for cool headlines tho!
