Wrapping up the 2023-2024 school year with strong data will leave you with a clear picture of the progress your students have made and a great sense of pride in all their accomplishments. And, while success looks differently for all of us, all students deserve to be recognized for their effort. Celebrating student successes, both big and small, can significantly boost classroom morale and a student’s sense of belonging at school. Plus it just feels good! There are a lot of ways to celebrate successes based on the different personalities and interests of the students in your class. The Northern Illinois University CTE Project team, in collaboration with ISBE, has created professional development that addresses the needs of new Career and Technical Education educators across the state of Illinois. These sessions are appropriate for any CTE teacher, regardless of endorsement or licensure type. These opportunities are free, and attendees will receive one professional development hour per session. New teachers do not need to attend all sessions to benefit from the content provided in these sessions; however, the next two in the series are virtual and address using various forms of assessments within the CTE classroom environment. Part 1 - Helping Students Learn: Using Various Forms of Assessment in CTE is Tuesday, Sept. 10, at 11 a.m. Part 2 Helping Students Learn: Using Various Forms of Assessment in CTE is Wednesday, Oct. 1, at 11 a.m.

Western is tackling the teacher shortage with its Mentor Teacher Certificate program, recently awarded a $126,389 grant from the Colorado Department of Higher Education. This funding will support veteran educators as they mentor new teachers, helping improve retention and professional growth. Launched four years ago, the 12-credit online course provides essential support for new teachers while rejuvenating veteran educators. As Mandi Leigh, Education Lecturer at Western, explains, “Veteran teachers are finding restoration through mentorship, and districts love the results.” Read more here: https://bit.ly/3OgT6Vw

I'm very excited to be able to share the exciting new offer that Ted Underwood-Webb at UW Tutoring and I have created!
