AAPLOG’s Post

Kimberly, a young mom, reached out to us to share her pregnancy loss story. She was prescribed what she was told was Plan B after suddenly stopping her usual hormonal contraceptive. After taking the pill, however, Kimberly realized that the drug she had been given was actually Ella. After doing some research, she realized that Ella, unlike Plan B, is a progesterone receptor blocker; it works the same way as the abortion drug mifepristone. "I ... would never have taken it if I would have known prior," Kimberly told us. She later discovered she was pregnant, which compounded her anxiety. Did taking Ella harm her preborn child? Kimberly began diligently monitoring her HCG levels, getting labs taken multiple times in a week. To her dismay, her levels of the pregnancy hormone were not increasing as they should in a healthy pregnancy. Less than two weeks after discovering her pregnancy, Kimberly tragically miscarried her child. Women deserve to know how Ella works so they can make informed decisions for themselves and their family.
