Meet Cameron Dixon, ALF’s 2025 Liver Life Challenge ® National LIVEr Champion! In July 2023, Cameron made the brave and life-changing decision to donate 70% of her liver to give her mother, who was in liver failure caused by polycystic kidney disease/polycystic liver disease, a second chance at life She said, “Donating my liver to my mom revealed the strength and courage we both possess and reinforced my commitment to leading a life dedicated to helping others. Now, as I transition from collegiate soccer to training to run the 129th Boston Marathon with Team ALF, I feel compelled to continue sharing my story to inspire others. Athletes and individuals everywhere have the ability to create meaningful change, and I hope my journey demonstrates the incredible impact we can have on the world.”

At the recently concluded 2024 World Sickle Cell Day community outreach and health fair, Mrs. Moji Michael, a mother of two children with Sickle Cell Disease, shared her experience raising warriors. Mrs. Michael stressed that knowing your genotype is important for breaking the cycle of pain. In her own words, she said, "'Let's break the cycle of pain; it should stop with this generation. Know your genotype!'" Our goal is to raise 30,000,000 NGN to provide essential nutrients for 2,000 children with Sickle Cell Disease (SCD). Hills. I hate hills. I don’t know why I do, but I do. Don’t get me wrong, I love walking and being outdoors, but I’d rather double the distance and traverse the flat, friendly, gradient-free ground, instead of put my calf muscles to the test by climbing anything that resembles a slope, let alone a mountain. So clearly it makes sense that I’ve volunteered myself to climb not one, not two, but three mountains … Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon as part of the National Three Peaks Challenge. Oh, and we’re aiming to complete the challenge in 24 hours. A brief overview for those not in the know: 1. The challenge starts in Scotland at Ben Nevis which, at 1,344 metres (4,409ft), is the highest of the three. 2. From there the expedition will drive south into the Lake District where we climb Scafell Pike (978 m, 3,209 ft). 3. The final of the three is the Welsh mountain, Snowdon, standing at no less than 1,085 m, 3,560 ft. So why, I hear you ask, have I agreed to undertake such a ‘Peak’ orientated challenge given my aversion to hills?? Well, it’s all in the name of an excellent cause of course. Together with 36 other members of the Begbies team, I’m helping to raise money for Cancer Research UK. This is a fantastic organisation that is working to bring an end to a disease which will, at some time or other, affect 50% of us. We have all seen the devastation that cancer brings to those living through it. If you’re able to show your support by helping us to hit our fundraising target that would be incredible and such a motivation in my final weeks of training. If you can give anything at all that would be amazing: https://lnkd.in/eAe9_53A Even if you’re not able to give financially, I’m in the market for some words of encouragement, tough love, training tips, podcast ideas for the hike and packing list tips. Any help you can offer would be gratefully receiced! In the meantime, I’m gearing up for my final training hikes ahead of the challenge on 27 April!! #nationalthreepeakschallenge #cancerresearchuk #begbiestraynor #ihatehills

Given that the uvea comprises the choroid, ciliary body and iris as per some definitions, maybe attention needs to be placed on the fibrous layer of the retina. Bruch’s membrane which is fibromuscular is negatively charged. By injecting positively charged VEGF and FGF capsules through target microscopic brachytherapy we can correct: 1. Uveitis - release microscopic prednisone with the capsules 2. Macular degeneration - supplying adjacent GF 3. Diabetic proliferation retinopathy - targeted areas of these two compounds - anti in others 4. Preclude retinal detachment by obviating all of above 5. Unblock canal of Schlemm by releasing synthetic lysozyme from Bruch via diffusion and capillaries RCH is clinically the strongest hospital overall including adult hospitals. It’s where I studied paediatrics as a medical student and is no doubt the forerunner worldwide in clinical guidelines. Your biggest fan! Arjun
Almost 40 years ago, Shelley Kline was diagnosed with Uvetis, a debilitating eye condition. At the time, Ophthalmologist Prof Frank Billson AO, or Prof as she affectionately refers to him, was one of the only specialists with expertise in Uvetis in Australia. “Prof Frank Billson has had such a profound impact on my life. He was a brilliant doctor; he always had such a good way of presenting the information and allowing me to make my own decisions with regards to my health,” said Shelley. As a way of honouring Prof's legacy and commitment to treating children with sight problems, Shelley established the Professor Frank Billson Research Scholarship at the The Royal Children's Hospital. We're all tied to heart disease and stroke in some way, and we must change that. Join your CREW friends, family, and co-workers to support Theo- Our Heartbreak Hero! Theo's journey began during his 20-week scan, where he was given a tough diagnosis—Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS) a rare congenital heart defect where the left ventricle is severely underdeveloped. Although congenital heart defects affect 1 in 100 babies, only 1 in every 3,841 babies receives a diagnosis of HLHS. Come walk or donate to help the American Heart Association, whose support fuels research, innovation, and a collective hope for families like ours. Your contributions not only help extend the lives of these courageous children but also provide a beacon of hope for their futures. https://lnkd.in/e8hWaAaq
