As the colder months settle in, many of us turn up the heat, making this the perfect time to prioritize safety and protect our loved ones from “the silent killer”—carbon monoxide (CO). Carbon monoxide is an odorless, colorless gas produced by burning fuels like gas, oil, coal, and wood. Without a working CO detector, we wouldn’t know it was in our homes or workplaces until it's too late. CO poisoning can cause dizziness, confusion, and, in severe cases, even be fatal. 🚨 Here are a few safety tips to keep in mind: * Install CO detectors on each level of your home and in sleeping areas. * Test detectors regularly and replace batteries twice a year. *Have heating systems and appliances serviced annually to prevent CO leaks. * Never use grills or generators indoors or in enclosed spaces. Let’s make this month count by raising awareness and encouraging everyone to take proactive steps to keep our homes and workplaces safe. Share this post, and together, let’s protect more lives from the dangers of CO poisoning. Stay safe, everyone! 💙 #CarbonMonoxideAwareness #SafetyFirst #HomeSafety #CarbonMonoxide
November is Carbon Monoxide Awareness Month. A highly toxic, colorless and odorless gas, carbon monoxide is produced by fuel-burning devices that we have and use in our homes – like furnaces, water heaters, fireplaces and stoves – and can lead to severe health risks and even death if exposed, making it especially critical to safeguard your home and family. According to the National Carbon Monoxide Awareness Association - NCOAA, carbon monoxide is only detectable with an electronic carbon monoxide sensor, alarm or detector. Intertek is proud to support carbon monoxide alarm manufacturers with quality and safety testing and certification to ensure their products meet relevant standards or codes, giving consumers peace of mind through early warning of carbon monoxide leaks.
