🆕 📰 Crowding in Private Quality: The Equilibrium Effects of Public Spending in Education This study by Tahir Andrabi, Natalie Bau, Jishnu Das, Naureen Karachiwalla, and Asim Ijaz Khwaja estimates the equilibrium effects of a public school grant program administered at the village level through school councils in Pakistani villages with multiple public and private schools and clearly defined catchment boundaries. The study found that four years after the start of the program, test scores were 0.2 standard deviations higher in public schools. The study also found evidence of an education multiplier: test scores in private schools were also 0.2 standard deviations higher in treated markets. It's disheartening to witness the conferral of Tamgha-e-Imtiaz to individuals not representing the country's progress. This year's recipients sadly do not include any doctors, engineers, techpenur, Enterpenur, IT experts, scientists, or academics, highlighting a stark contrast to the nation's needs. The absence of recognition for those driving innovation and development underscores the concerning state of degradation and destruction facing Pakistan. As we reflect on this day of national significance, let's strive for a future where meritocracy prevails, and achievements in crucial fields are duly acknowledged, fostering a path towards prosperity and advancement for all.
