Retail hiring is a big problem in India! For those of you don't know, my father & my uncle own a couple of retail franchise outlets across Ahmedabad & Surat, but they are facing one problem since day 1, Hiring & Re-hiring of talented folks that are having experience in retail industry specifically a clothing brand. Several reasons: 1. Discoverability of these folks as they are not on LinkedIn as opposed to usual hiring in tech enabled companies, nor on any job listing platform due to not enough literacy. 2. Since franchise outlets have very limited margins, salaries offered by these owners to staff is relatively less, typically ranges from 10K to 12K for Fresher, 13K to 17K for mid-senior & 18K+ for senior, plus incentives ranging from 0.5% to 5% depending on targets. 3. Poaching is a big problem too, stores typically tend to hire and poach folks from store next door. 4. Since the salary is less ideally these folks stay in around 5 to 7 KM radius from the store location which further narrows down the target audience. We have been trying to hire a Store Manager & a Salesman since 4 months now but have had not much luck. Even Apna hasn’t cracked the code.
