Policy Analyst for Defence & Security at the European Policy Centre; interested in transatlantic security, EU & NATO security and defense policy and disruptive technologies
DefSecEU has liftoff! 🚀🇪🇺 At the European Policy Centre, we have successfully launched our brand new EUropean Defence & Security Project (DefSecEU) aimed at finding practical solutions to mobilize 🏭 industrial, 💶 financial and 🫡 human capital for European defence. The panel debate moderated by EPC’s Senior Fellow, Paul Taylor, featuring Timo Pesonen (Director General, DEFIS, European Commission); Benedetta Berti, PhD (Head of Policy Planning at NATO); Anita Nergaard (Ambassador of Norway to NATO) & Declan Kelleher (Chair of EPC’s Governing Board) sent a clear message: ⚔️The only way to help Ukraine prevail and protect Europe from Vladimir Putin’s furher aggression is by building credible European and Euro-Atlantic defence capabilties. 📻 Stayed tuned for in-dept studies, expert articles and analyses, defence & security podcast, as well as public and closed-door discussions with key policy actors including the EU, NATO, their member states, defence, financial and tech industry representatives, academia and civil society. Among others, we will address the following questions: ➡️ How can defence regulatory structures be improved to reduce barriers, integrate the market, and attract investors? ➡️ How to remove obstacles or deterrents to investment in the defence sector? ➡️ How can European countries generate the skilled personnel and numbers required to build up the armed forces? ➡️ How to enhance collaboration between the Ukrainian and other non-EU defense sectors, such as the UK, Norway, or Turkey? I would like to thank all my colleagues for delivering such a great launch and look forward to our next steps. Fabian Zuleeg, Maria Martisiute, Mihai Chihaia, Dr. Jamie Shea, Chris K., Garvan Walshe

🚀 The Power of Communication & Knowledge Exchange 🚀 While we host our #FintechMission, it's a great reminder of why we need more formats for exchanging information and knowledge. Innovation doesn’t happen in a vacuum – it thrives through collaboration, shared insights, and diverse perspectives. The more we communicate, the more opportunities we create to break new ground. And speaking of exciting collaborations, here’s some news from the defence ecosystem: thanks to the Polish-Lithuanian Defence Forum companies like RB Defence and RSI Europe have teamed up to form a powerful new consortium. This group, including: Łukasiewicz – IMN (Leader) Łukasiewicz - ILOT MESKO S.A. Military University of Technology RINA Consulting - Centro Sviluppo Materiali …are joining forces to apply for funding under the European Defence Fund (EDF), focusing on advancing shaped charge liner technologies. This project is supported by the NATO Science for Peace and Security program This is the phrase we should use from now on in communication about Fundacja Postup's mine and explosive objects detection MinesEye project. And we will do it with pride! Because NATO support is not only about the budget for the purchase of equipment for experiments. First of all, it is: - Recognition of the results of almost 2 years of hard work by our team - An opportunity to cooperate with leading scientific institutions in different countries - A signal that NATO has no intention of standing aside from the problem of humanitarian demining in Ukraine and will support the development of technologies and the expansion of Ukraine's capabilities in this direction.
