Executive Director, Patient Oriented Research

On National Truth and Reconciliation Day, I reaffirm my commitment as a person and as a public servant to listening, learning, and taking action in the spirit of reconciliation and self-determination for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples.   As part of the recent Strategy for Patient-Oriented Research (#SPOR) Refresh engagement process, our team was privileged to hear from Indigenous scholars and community members who have been leading #SPOR-funded research. We heard about how #SPOR (and health research more broadly) can continue to accelerate First Nations, Inuit, and Métis self-determination in health research by:   - Investing in education, training, and capacity building - Developing longer-term, sustainable inclusive, transparent, flexible, and equitable funding models - Ensuring funded research is driven by Indigenous communities' priorities   And so much more. To learn about what we heard about barriers and challenges for Indigenous self-determination in health research, proposed solutions, and some of the great work that was highlighted by the Indigenous scholars and community members we spoke with, check out the SPOR Refresh summary report, pages 16-24: https://www.naphro.ca/spor   #Truthandreconciliation #IndigenousHealthResearch #SPOR #SRAP
