It's been great seeing the positive response from employers and employees to An Mheitheal Rothar's work at our bike mechanic days. Circularity is a key part of a company's Scope 3 emissions reductions strategy, but it isn’t just about reducing emissions - it’s a strategic move toward future compliance and resilience. As we edge closer to 2025 and the mandatory reporting under the EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), now is the time for companies to embrace practices that support their long-term sustainability goals. Delighted to see how well this particular approach to circularity resonates on-site. It's disheartening to see how advocating for safer cycling infrastructure has become so polarising. The benefits of cycling are clear: improved public health, reduced traffic congestion, and lower carbon emissions. However, resistance, especially from those accustomed to car-centric planning, remains a significant hurdle. We can bridge this divide by focusing on collaborative solutions that prioritize safety, efficiency, and sustainability for all. #Cycling #Micromobility #SustainableCities #UrbanPlanning

🚴♂️🚴♀️ **Cycling Transformation in Yellowknife: What This Means for Bike Owners and the Industry** 🚴♀️🚴♂️ Exciting news for cycling enthusiasts! Cyclists in Yellowknife are advocating for enhanced downtown storage options and dedicated bike lanes, signalling a transformative shift in the local cycling landscape. 🌟 Yellowknife’s push for improved cycling infrastructure, as highlighted by recent calls from the community, underscores a burgeoning commitment to active and sustainable transportation in the city. This advocacy for better facilities aligns perfectly with broader global trends emphasizing green mobility solutions and urban sustainability. What stands out particularly is the launch of "The Shift," a free bike-share program introduced on June 25, 2024. This initiative allows residents to access free bikes for two-week periods throughout the summer. Such programs are game-changers in cities like Yellowknife, where convenience and accessibility can greatly influence cycling uptake. Key Takeaways: 1. **Enhanced Infrastructure**: The call for more downtown storage options and dedicated bike lanes aligns with industry efforts to make urban areas more bike-friendly. Better infrastructure can reduce safety concerns and encourage more residents to choose cycling over other forms of transportation. 2. **Innovative Solutions**: Programs like "The Shift" demonstrate the industry's move towards community-centric solutions. Free bike-sharing addresses accessibility barriers and encourages more people to incorporate cycling into their daily lives. 3. **Industry Implications**: For manufacturers and retailers, this shift signals a growing market for bikes and cycling accessories tailored specifically for urban environments. Companies should consider developing products that cater to the needs of city cyclists, such as compact, easy-to-store bikes and high-visibility safety gear. The increase in cycling advocacy and the introduction of innovative programs like "The Shift" can serve as valuable case studies for other cities looking to promote sustainable transportation. 📢 **Professional Call to Action**: Let’s engage! How can we, as industry professionals, capitalize on and support these trends to drive urban cycling forward? Share your thoughts, experiences, and ideas. A 2023 poll by the Share the Road Cycling Coalition reveals that nearly 10 million Ontarians bike at least once a month, with 3.2 million cycling daily. Bill 212 threatens these cyclists by overlooking the vital benefits of bike lanes for health, sustainability, and affordability. Removing these lanes will drive more people into cars, worsening gridlock and pollution—contrary to Ontario’s goals. Not to mention that shifting decision-making from local governments to the province undermines municipalities' ability to create vibrant, human-scale streets that we all admire in European cities such as Copenhagen or Barcelona. Instead of rolling back progress, Ontario Government | Gouvernement de l’Ontario should invest in expanding cycling and pedestrian infrastructure for a safer, greener, and more affordable city! #SaveOurBikeLanes #CyclingInOntario #ActiveTransportation #SustainableCities #InvestInCycling #Bill212 #JaneJacobsVision

🚴Cycling: a long - term solution to soaring fuel costs and pollution As fuel prices continue to rise worldwide and urban pollution reaches critical levels, cycling emerges as a sustainable and eco-friendly solution. With the ability to reduce transportation costs and environmental impact, it is increasingly being embraced globally. 🚴🌍 This initiative aligns with global trends, as several countries have successfully integrated cycling into their transportation systems. Here are eight countries leading the way in making cycling a primary mode of transportation: 🇳🇱Netherlands: With more bikes than residents, cycling is deeply integrated into daily life, supported by extensive bike lanes and infrastructure. 🇩🇰Denmark : The country has a network of 11 national cycle routes and many regional routes that extend over 12,000 kilometres. 🇩🇪Germany: Over half the population cycles regularly. 🇨🇳China: Bicycles remain popular. The rise of electric bikes ⚡ is also transforming commuting patterns across the country. 🇯🇵Japan: Cycling is deeply ingrained in the culture, especially in rural areas and suburban areas. 🇸🇪Sweden: Cities like Malmö have invested heavily in bike-friendly infrastructure. 🇫🇮Finland: Helsinki leads with innovative cycling initiatives. 🇧🇪Belgium: Cycling is part of the national culture, particularly in Ghent and Bruges. As we consider the future of transportation, these countries serve as inspiring examples of how investing in cycling infrastructure can lead to healthier lifestyles, reduced environmental impact, and improved urban living conditions. Let’s embrace this opportunity to promote cycling as a sustainable alternative! 🚴♂️🌱 Read more : https://lnkd.in/ejM4RBXJ #bikeshare #bikesharing #micromobility

We have already encouraged hundreds of NON-cyclists to try life in the saddle this Bike Week! BetterPoints is making healthy and sustainable behaviour the norm, which includes the way we travel. Cycling can be a cheap, convenient and healthy transport option for many people, once they discover it. And we help them discover it – and you can too. People registered with BetterPoints programmes and identified as non-cyclists at the beginning of this Bike Week have so far clocked up more than 800 MILES between them (it was under 400 on Wednesday!) Our platform enables us to assess this cohort's impact on CARBON EMISSIONS, and at this point we estimate they may have SAVED around 200kg so far this week. It is not just cycling. We can monitor and measure pretty much any form of travel, whether it's walking, wheeling, running, car, train, bus, or tram – we have even tracked scooters and ferry journeys before now. Programmes that help people shift to more active and sustainable forms of transport are important for local authorities to activate their infrastructures and remould society’s relationship with the environment. They can also have a big impact on public health targets and can deliver tangible return on investment (ROI), with solid evidence for measuring social impact and outcomes. For example, Sheffield City Council observed a reduction of 830,000 car journeys in six months with its BetterPoints Sheffield sustainable travel programme and delivered nearly 200% return on investment in carbon savings. Meanwhile, Buckinghamshire Council demonstrably motivated inactive people to take up 150 minutes or more of physical activity a week with BetterPoints Bucks – and calculated that they saved £4 for every £1 they spent on it. You can read about the Buckinghamshire and Sheffield programmes in these case studies: https://lnkd.in/eA5TJJD9 And do drop us a line if you would like to hear more. Bike Week runs until Sunday. #BikeWeek #BikeWeek2024 #Cycling #ActiveTravel #SustainableTransport #PublicHealth #ActiveHealth #BehaviourChange #CarbonReduction
