Why did we start a fashion tech company? I’ve gotten this question A LOT in the past 8 months. I’ve been working in the apparel industry for 25+ years, primarily in the creative sector on strategy, design, product development and in the past years eco design. I’m no tech “dude”. Together with my partner (engineer and a tech “dude”), we’ve been running our design agency Desinder for 17 years, working with hundreds of brands and startups. We’ve seen “under the hood” of how businesses operate. NO brand has it all figured out. Through the years it’s been evident what works and what doesn’t. After each project we evaluated the projects and accumulated the information. From hearing and experiencing the pain points and struggles of brands we created systems, processes, templates, workflows, and “cheat sheets”. Last year we made the decision to put it into a cloud-based software tool that solves the problems.  We wanted to build something that is easy to use, has a real impact, and is scaleable for brands. Something that leads them into circularity. Portia was born, and is build on the thousands of products, hundreds of projects and countless meetings with global brand teams. It’s built on the accumulated knowledge from running the Desinder agency in the past 17 years. It solves many of the real issues fashion brands face every day, and specially with the coming legislation. From countless brainstorming sessions to the intricate design and development phases, every step has been a labor of love, driven by our mission to provide an experience that reflects our brand’s values of inclusivity, style, and community. Here’s a closer look at the journey so far: Vision and Planning: Early on, our team came together to define what we wanted this digital experience to represent. We aimed to create a platform that is more than just a place to shop; it’s a space where visitors can explore, get inspired, and feel connected to a community. Design and User Experience: We focused heavily on designing an interface that feels welcoming and intuitive. The Tech world seems to be completely stuck in the dark While many industries leverage the value of a strong brand and #storytelling, the tech world seems to be completely stuck in the dark. Why? Because it's 'not their cup of tea'. Which I understand, but the heartbreaking 💔 part is that the world needs tech more than ever!!! This huge blind spot is hurting them and, in turn, hurting us all. Here's a great example of how it's done right. Wine is 'just' wine. Shoot me now, I know what a horrible thing to say. But is it really 'just' wine, or am I lacking context? On this label, they spend about 80% on the story of where the wine comes from and 20% describing what it tastes like. The result? I decided to buy it because I was captivated by the beautiful world where the grapes were grown. And you know what; >> I think the wine actually tastes better because of it! << How about the specs? Well, don't get me wrong, they do have a purpose... it's nice to know if it combines well with my dinner choice, but honestly, not more than that. The tech world could learn a lot from this approach. "You have to tell the story first, before you sell the product."
