I'm always thrilled to see my fellow authors recognized for their achievements, and have long been interested in how the lessons from the transformation of the American West in the pasr may be applied in the future by countries which today share similarities in terrain, (lack of) infrastructure, unique "cattle cultures", indigenous armed ttibes, and massive mineral wealth and agricultural potential! Putting CONTINENTAL RECKONING on my "must-read" list.

West's book was described by the jury as “a searing narrative explaining how the republic became a transcontinental nation,” through a “vast racial, social and political reordering” that redefined citizenship and the relationship between government, industry and the people. That’s a wrap for the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s 53rd Legislative Conference. Whenever you think you’ve seen the highest heights, it’s time to leave your environment. What you’ll find is there’s always another level. Entering into this space where policy is being designed, systems are being reimagined, and lives of Americans are being changed is an example of that other level. There’s tons of work to do in Dallas, so it was important to learn how the people at the highest level are pioneering change so that I can bring it back. For generations, economic development plans have promised growth and opportunity, but Black communities have continued to be left behind. While political programs and representation have brought some progress, the data show that much more is needed. The The Economic Development Association for Black Communities (EDABC) believes the true path to prosperity lies in job readiness, political education, business leadership, and empowerment within our communities. Achieving revenue, employee, and wage parity for Black businesses could add billions to the economy and create thousands of jobs in Colorado alone.
